About The Position

The Water Career Exploration Intern participates in a structured internship designed specifically for Arroyo Valley High School CORE Academy students to introduce them to careers in water utilities, public works, and environmental services. This program focuses on career exposure, industry learning, and professional development, with limited, supervised hands-on activities to reinforce learning. Interns will explore how a municipal water department operates through facility tours, staff engagement, and interactive learning experiences. This internship provides a guided introduction to the water industry through facility tours and site visits, department rotations and staff-led presentations, career panels and professional development sessions, and interactive demonstrations and limited hands-on learning activities. Interns will gain exposure to multiple divisions within the water department and learn how they work together to serve the community.

Requirements

  • Current student in the Arroyo Valley High School CORE Academy
  • Interest in water systems, environmental services, or public service careers
  • Willingness to actively participate and engage in all program activities
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and follow instructions

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in all scheduled activities, workshops, and tours
  • Engage with staff and presenters by asking questions and participating in discussions
  • Complete reflection activities and conduct a final presentation
  • Follow all safety guidelines and program expectations
  • Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and teamwork
  • Represent Arroyo Valley High School and the CORE Academy positively
