About The Position

Aurora Water is responsible for enhancing and protecting the quality of life for Aurora citizens by providing quality water, sewer, and stormwater services in a manner that balances social, environmental, and economic needs. This position serves as a Business System Analyst (BSA) for Aurora Water’s software systems. The BSA’s primary role is to partner with users across the utility to identify opportunities to optimize processes and solve problems with technology. The BSA will work within the Business Systems Technology team and support Aurora Water enterprise system users (EAM, GIS, CIS, permitting, modeling, and mobile device management). Primary responsibilities of this position include developing functional requirements that describe business needs and participating in the planning, design, development, quality assurance, testing, and deployment to ensure project deliverables are met according to determined specifications and end user requirements. The BSA will apply analytical skills to validate that solutions created or implemented by IT, SaaS providers, or the Business Systems Technology team deliver the expected capabilities and planned value to the organization.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in business administration, computer science, information systems, data analytics, or related field.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with enterprise systems including systems analysis, project management and user training
  • Colorado driver's license with a good driving history.
  • Ability to obtain certifications required to support business applications within one year of identification.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year of experience working with GIS and Esri Products preferred.
  • Experience in the software development lifecycle, including defining and documenting specifications, collaborating with developers to design and analyze technical solutions, testing completed code, and supporting implementation with business partners
  • Experience working in Agile project management framework.
  • Experience with data visualization and dashboarding.
  • Experience in the Utility industry (water, electric, gas).
  • General proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), Permitting, Customer Information Systems (CIS), and Building Information Modeling (BIM) is desired
  • Knowledge of Power BI and data visualization tools
  • Knowledge of ETL techniques and data frameworks
  • Ability to effectively manage competing stakeholder needs to define, design, and test user-intuitive systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple, sometimes competing and/or highly complex projects, stakeholders, and operational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Engaging with customers and reviewing data to identify changes to business processes and tools that can improve efficiencies and add value.
  • Consulting with departmental users to document and prioritize needs. This includes the development and documentation of requirements, specifications, and desired state workflows.
  • Translating conceptual business requirements into discrete functional requirements in a clear and succinct manner that is comprehensible to the project team. This includes converting requirements into Agile stories and prioritized two-week agile sprints.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Requirements Traceability Matrix (if used on a project) through all project methodology phases.
  • Creating and maintaining data for User Acceptance Testing (UAT), training, and change management success.
  • Working independently or within a team to establish test plans and scripts for tracking defects and fixes for application development, solution implementation, and software upgrades. This includes defining and executing system tests, functional tests, integration tests, and smoke tests of Aurora Water enterprise systems (EAM, GIS, CIS, permitting, modeling, and mobile device management).
  • Facilitating change management tasks associated with initiatives.
  • Using judgement to determine best method and level of escalation to use to resolve problems encountered during any project phase, initiative, or continuous improvement effort.
  • Acting as a liaison between the delivery teams that are engaged in implementing the application as well and the business partners that will be using the application throughout the project or operational lifecycle.
  • Communicating enhancements and modifications of business requirements– verbally or through written documentation–to project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders so that issues and solutions are clearly understood.
  • Creating, distributing, and maintaining reports and metrics via Power BI or internal systems (such as Service Now or Workday) to turn data into interactive insights.
  • Creating and providing training and orientation for modifications or new processes.
  • Willingness and ability to brainstorm with others, thrive in a collaborative and productive team environment, multi-task and quickly adapt to change.
  • Delivering high quality work products.
  • Keeping current on the latest technology trends and making recommendations for implementation in Aurora.
  • Serving in a project manager role intermittently.
  • Performing additional related duties as assigned.
