About The Position

Watch Assistant Security Analysts support all-hazards/all-threats emergency response operations in the Incident Command Center for the Social Security Administration. Part-time, on-call employees provide backup watch-standing coverage when full-time watch standers are unavailable due to scheduled or unscheduled leave. Assignments may be scheduled several weeks in advance or with little notice during emergency situations.

  • Ability to observe situations analytically and objectively, identify behavioral indicators, and clearly record and report findings.
  • Ability to recall, evaluate, retain, analyze, and disseminate critical information from documents and logs.
  • Ability to use communication platforms to relay situational information to security contractors, government employees, supporting agencies, and organizations.
  • Strong oral, written, communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, including with law enforcement and emergency response personnel.
  • Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies and handle situations firmly, tactfully, courteously, and impartially.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining professionalism and discretion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to create and maintain manual and electronic logs and records.
  • Working knowledge of security monitoring and communications equipment, including radios, fire alarm systems, and surveillance systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust suitability status.
  • At least 2 years of operations center experience within the past 5 years.
  • Experience with operations center security equipment, including computer consoles, base station radios, electronic key control boxes, video surveillance equipment, and related computer-based programs such as Lenel.

Responsibilities

  • Support OFSM staff in the Incident Command Center.
  • Gather, analyze, and report details from open information sources.
  • Create and maintain operational records, logs, reports, and files.
  • Coordinate notifications to first responders and OFSM personnel.
  • Monitor security platforms and notify appropriate personnel.
  • Assist Watch Officers in stabilizing situations and providing operational information to Senior Staff.
  • Prepare, participate in, and support After Action Reports for training, exercises, and drills, including but not limited to fire, bomb threats, terrorism, workplace violence, bio-toxins, active assailant incidents, chemical/biological threats, suspicious packages, hazmat, earthquakes, tornadoes, building damage, power failures, civil unrest, explosions, building recovery, and shelter-in-place events.
  • Generate Mass Emergency Notification System messages for SSA Headquarters.
  • Develop and distribute ICC Notes and Incident Reports.
  • Detect, analyze, and alert the Government Watch Officer to adverse conditions, including threats or hazards that may affect SSA personnel, facilities, property, or other assets.
  • Monitor the safety and security of Agency personnel, facilities, and property on a 24/7 basis.
  • Monitor common SSA Headquarters incidents, including personal accidents, medical incidents, heightened security alerts, high-level visitors, alarm activations, drills, and evacuations.
  • Monitor, detect, and analyze severe weather, political instability, crime, terrorism, technical or mechanical failures, and other threats at or near SSA facilities.
  • Perform security-related duties such as intrusion detection monitoring, notification, and surveillance system monitoring, depending on assignment.
  • Provide critical information needed by responding entities to act according to their internal procedures.
  • Serve as liaison with local, state, and federal agencies, including FEMA, the National Weather Service, Federal Protective Service, and local first responders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Do not direct response actions for adverse conditions.
