The City of Aurora Wastewater Utility Worker performs manual labor duties and will assist with routine maintenance and repair functions for the Wastewater division within the Aurora Water department. The Wastewater division performs preventive and emergency maintenance of wastewater mainlines. These tasks are performed daily using Vac-Con combination sewer cleaners and Closed Circuit Television equipment as well as other various support trucks and equipment. The vast majority of work is performed above ground so that entry into manholes is infrequent. The nature of our work is preventative, so we seldom have after hour's emergencies that require employees to respond to work at odd hours. All Wastewater employees participate in the standby program that requires being "on-call" 24-7, two to three weeks per year. Average overtime worked in this section is 30 hours per year.
