About The Position

The Wastewater Treatment Operator is responsible for the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of the wastewater treatment system at a rendering facility. This role ensures that wastewater generated from rendering operations is treated effectively and discharged in compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements. The operator performs system inspections, laboratory testing, equipment maintenance, recordkeeping, and corrective actions to maintain efficient plant performance.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in industrial environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions hot or cold.
  • Ability to use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work around chemicals, wastewater, and process equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor wastewater treatment equipment, including: Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) systems, Biological treatment systems, Aeration equipment, Pumps, valves, and piping systems, Clarifiers and sludge handling equipment
  • Monitor wastewater flow rates, pH levels, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and other treatment parameters.
  • Collect wastewater samples and perform laboratory analyses.
  • Adjust chemical feed systems and treatment processes to maintain compliance with discharge permits.
  • Maintain accurate operational logs, treatment records, and regulatory reports.
  • Conduct routine inspections of treatment equipment and facilities.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and process upsets.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, motors, blowers, and related equipment.
  • Coordinate sludge handling, dewatering, and disposal activities.
  • Respond to alarms, spills, and environmental incidents as required.
  • Assist during environmental inspections and audits.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Follow facility safety procedures, including confined space, lockout/tagout, and chemical handling requirements.
  • Work with production personnel to minimize wastewater loading and improve treatment efficiency.
  • Participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives.
