About The Position

The purpose of this position is to operate and maintain the wastewater treatment plant and the drinking water for the public. This is accomplished by collecting daily meter readings; calibrating lab meters; checking plant equipment; adjusting the SCADA computer; checking charts for trends; performing oil changes and greasing; repairing equipment; collecting daily plant samples; recording dissolved oxygen readings; inspecting chlorine cylinders; communicating problems; creating and fulfilling work orders; completing plant and system checks; verifying equipment operation; evaluating trends; and verifying chemical residuals. Other duties include performing UV maintenance and repair; training employees; troubleshooting for plant malfunctions; creating monthly operation reports; managing monthly water charts and plumage reports; developing a majority of the forms the Water Plants uses; replying to e-mails; performing janitorial work; overseeing fire flow tests; and supervising contractors.

Requirements

A minimum of a high school diploma or GED issued from an approved GED Administrator.
Previous relevant work experience is preferred but not required (Trainee).
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class E Driver's license.
As a condition of employment, must obtain Class A (CDL) Driver's License within the first six months of employment (Trainee).
Minimum of one-year relevant experience (Operator I).
Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator C License (Operator I).
Minimum of three years relevant experience (Operator II).
Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the candidate’s ability to perform successfully in this position will be considered (Operator II).
State of Florida Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator B License (Operator II).
Minimum of three years relevant experience (Operator III).
Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the candidate’s ability to perform successfully in this position will be considered (Operator III).
State of Florida Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator A License (Operator III).

Responsibilities

Collects daily meter readings.
Calibrates lab meters.

Performs all operational procedures by checking clarifier blankets; obtaining samples; checking equipment; performing inspections on SCADA communications; cleaning channels or splitter boxes; checking water plants and other facilities; performing preventive maintenance; and administering plant tours.
Communicates with customers and community by sending daily emails; creating reports and facility updates; recording all calibrations of meters or analyzers; inputting data in OPS PAC; developing work orders; directing team meetings; and communicating with bio-solids staff, vendors, and visitors.
Performs all housekeeping duties by hosing down areas with debris; addressing safety concerns; checking for proper drainage; painting; disposing of trash; assisting with landscaping or beautification projects; and ensuring the facility is maintained.
Collects samples for analysis by using gloves and caution in sampling areas; managing sampling containers carefully; avoiding contamination; fulfilling chain of custody forms; and obtaining all information for chain of custody forms.
Performs daily water plant checks by checking all equipment; monitoring hour meters and flow meters; checking chemical residuals; changing chemical analyzers; maintaining chemical inventory; transferring and inspecting chemicals; calibrating test kits; and adjusting feed rates.
Maintains the plant by completing maintenance work orders; greasing plant equipment; managing rust/corrosion control; and performing housekeeping practices and general cleaning.
Manages plant repairs by scheduling work orders for internal repair; ensuring all plant equipment in repaired; and assisting mechanics and electricians when necessary.
Performs preventive maintenance by shutting off power; locking out equipment; greasing moving equipment; changing oils in gearboxes; guaranteeing all maintenance activities are safe; and painting equipment.
Controls processes by checking process basins; using odor sensory perception and results from laboratory tests; reviewing the performance of the process; and overseeing the SCADA system.
Performs housekeeping duties by cleaning for spider webs; removing all dirt and debris; maintaining materials and equipment; and ensuring the facility is aesthetically pleasing.
Gives plant tours by evaluating the process and equipment in the treatment process; obtaining daily readings from meters and gauges; maintaining records; and ensuring all equipment functions properly.
Maintains facility logbooks by recording duties and projects; maintaining a record of compliance issues; and maintaining entries of process issues and the integrity of the logbook.
Obtains samples for analysis by using gloves and caution when approaching sampling areas; handling sampling containers carefully; closing sample containers promptly; filling out chain of custody forms; and collecting information for chain of custody form.
Fulfills water plant daily operations by visiting individual facilities; collecting plant data; collecting samples to analyze residuals in water leaving the facility; making any necessary adjustments to chemical feed pumps; recording in the logbook all the details; and checking remote wells for normal operations.
Completes monthly work orders by pulling up assigned work orders; reviewing and prioritizing work orders; designating which are to be completed; and completing tasks on a work order.
Remains updated with chemical purchases by approving all chemical purchases for the finance department; copying and filing chemical purchase invoices; submitting purchase orders; and tracking all chemical purchases.
Manages and replies to all company e-mails by opening an e-mail account; filtering through information; saving important data; and replying to emails.
