About The Position

The Wastewater Treatment Certified Operator acts as the subject matter expert on wastewater treatment activities at the site and ensures compliance of 24/7/365 operations. This responsibility includes chemical pretreatment lift stations, chemical wastewater treatment system, fermentation wastewater treatment system, fume incineration unit, sludge dewatering, seepage collection wells, the domestic waste collection system, all storm and process sewers, and the foul air collection system.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; technical degree preferred.
  • Ten years of wastewater treatment or related industrial operations experience and an Indiana Class D Wastewater Treatment Certification.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, analytical, troubleshooting, and mechanical aptitude skills with attention to detail in reporting and documentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, SAP, DeltaV, or similar process automation systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives, solve problems, and leverage experience and training to achieve operational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the site's Certified Operator, ensuring compliance with NPDES, Title V, Pharma MACT, and other applicable environmental regulations while maintaining accurate regulatory reporting and permit requirements.
  • Provide operational and technical support for wastewater and stormwater treatment systems, using performance data to optimize system reliability, compliance, and environmental stewardship.
  • Lead regulatory audits, inspections, permitting activities, investigations, corrective actions, and change management initiatives to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Support environmental operations through the effective use of business systems, including ESTER, TrackWise, Regulus, ELADIN, and SAP.
  • Drive process improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and safety enhancements while maintaining awareness of departmental budget objectives.
  • Collaborate with engineers, maintenance personnel, contractors, and operations teams to execute projects, maintenance activities, and environmental control initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for wastewater treatment by developing procedures, delivering training, facilitating knowledge transfer, and supporting operator licensing and continuing education programs.
  • Maintain compliance with plant safety policies and promote safe work practices across all environmental control operations.
