About The Position

Pima County's Regional Wastewater Reclamation (RWRD) is seeking a Wastewater Technical Trainer to develop, deliver, and evaluate training for Wastewater Utility Maintenance Workers and other RWRD Conveyance personnel. This role involves direct instruction on wastewater theory and facility operations and maintenance in both classroom and field settings, contributing to career development and state regulatory-required certifications. The position also requires the creation of multi-modal training content, instructional materials, and presentations, emphasizing strong in-person, verbal, and written communication skills, along with public speaking aptitude. Requirements

• Three years of experience as a teacher/instructor in one or more STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) disciplines or as an instructor/trainer in related industrial job training. (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
• OR: Two years of experience in the operation or maintenance of an advanced, complex wastewater/water facility or related industry/facility as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment, INCLUDING one year of experience performing lead, supervisory, and/or training duties (supervisory/training experience may be concurrent). (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
• OR: One year of experience with Pima County in an Operations & Maintenance Technician II, Utility Maintenance Worker III, Industrial Wastewater Inspector, Wastewater Maintenance Specialist II, Conveyance Systems Monitoring II or closely related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
• Valid driver's license is required at the time of application.
• Valid AZ driver's license is required at time of appointment.
• The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review.
• A valid Arizona commercial driver's license (CDL), Class A, Class B, or Class C with appropriate endorsements is required.
• Treatment-specific and conveyance-specific positions require maintaining a valid Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade 3 Wastewater Treatment System Operator certification or ADEQ Grade 3 Wastewater Collection System Operator certification at time of application.
• Sufficient body flexibility, mobility, stamina, and balance to allow for standing, walking, sitting, grasping and manipulation of work objects, frequent bending, stooping, reaching, climbing stairs/ladders; regular or occasional crawling, kneeling, squatting, lifting/ carrying objects up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling objects up to 75 pounds, donning/doffing fall protection to work in confined spaces.
• Ability to interpret written manuals, gauges, etc., including distinguishing various colors.
• Ability to comprehend voice communications in-person, over a radio/phone, and hearing operating equipment.
• Ability to operate machinery and powered industrial equipment.
• Frequently required to lift 50 pounds, push or pull objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams) or other educational/training development software.
• Minimum (1) one year experience developing curriculum and associated training materials.
• Minimum (1) one year experience presenting training materials.
• Minimum (1) one year experience working in an industrial or construction environment.
• Minimum (1) one year experience working with industrial or construction-related safety rules, procedures, and/or regulations (ex: Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

Responsibilities

• Develops, delivers, and evaluates training for Wastewater Utility Maintenance Workers and other RWRD Conveyance personnel.
• Delivers direct instruction on wastewater theory and facility operations and maintenance in classroom and field settings.
• Creates and develops multi-modal training content, instructional materials, and presentations.
• Identifies and prioritizes training needs, programs, or strategies based on regulatory and departmental requirements.
• Collaborates with internal teams and subject matter experts to ensure alignment with department goals and objectives.
• Designs, develops, delivers, and updates technical training curricula, materials, and evaluations, using fundamental principles of the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment and conveyance systems, processes, equipment, and machinery.
• Provides technical and practical training for the purposes of obtaining licensing certifications, credentials, or endorsements that are required of Department employees.
• Uses various digital tools and platforms to research and develop training materials for a variety of settings.
• Uses relevant computer software programs and applications for training documentation, file and database management, and report preparation.
• Participates in professional development to enhance skills, knowledge, and to stay updated on new technologies and best practices.
• Evaluates external materials and texts for use.
• May coordinate the provision of training by other external sources.
• Uses principles and practices of employee supervision, training, and evaluation.
