As a Wastewater System Technician II, you have a unique opportunity to change lives through exceptional service. In this role you will perform routine to difficult technical work in the maintenance of the wastewater collection system and easement network for Cary. This work is vital in maintaining 1,000 plus miles of sanitary sewer lines, 26K manholes, utility easements and 270 miles of storm water pipe including catch basins. This technician will perform significant work mowing and clearing easements. The position is also responsible for performing repairs, acoustic testing on sanitary sewer mains, cleaning sanitary sewer main lines with straight jet, tag along trailer jet, and jet vacuum combination trucks. Team members are expected to be cross-trained and work in all areas within the scope of wastewater system work. A Wastewater System Technician II works more independently than a Technician I, leads a crew of two staff members on daily tasks, and may have specialized responsibilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Wastewater Collections Team Leader. Our ideal candidate is experienced in tree cutting and equipment operation, including skid steers and tractors. The candidate will be flexible, self-motivated, and willing to take initiative to complete wastewater system maintenance and repairs. Most importantly, the individual will take pride in their accomplishments and the difference they make in the Cary community. Candidates must be willing to perform “on-call” after hours standby duty on a rotating basis where they will respond to sanitary sewer spills (SSO’s) as well as blockages on sewer lines. Employees are key members of the Adverse Weather Response team assisting in necessary tasks during or following weather events. They may also assist with seasonal leaf collection, as needed.
