About The Position

Under general supervision, the Wastewater Plant Attendant/Operator helps operate and maintain the City of Wilmington’s wastewater treatment plant, grounds, and related pump stations. The position performs laboratory testing and process control, operates plant equipment, maintains required records, and assists with repairs and upkeep. This is a full-time, classified position that normally works 40 hours per week. The position reports to the Chief Operator. A candidate hired as a Plant Attendant must obtain an Ohio EPA Class I Wastewater Operator’s License within two years of appointment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance plan.
  • Ability to obtain an Ohio EPA Class I Wastewater Operator’s License within two years of appointment.
  • Ability to keep accurate records, follow written and verbal instructions, use computers and tools, and work safely around treatment equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs laboratory testing and process control to support plant operations and meet NPDES permit requirements.
  • Operates and adjusts pumps, valves, and other plant equipment.
  • Assists with setting samplers, flow meters, and other devices used to monitor wastewater entering and leaving the plant.
  • Enters data into OP-10 forms, laboratory bench sheets, and other EPA-required records.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports, including monthly billing records for septic receiving and vehicle and building fuel costs.
  • Monitors plant supply needs and notifies the supervisor when chemicals are needed.
  • Helps maintain plant buildings and grounds, including mowing grass and removing snow.
  • Makes minor equipment repairs and adjustments.
  • Assists maintenance staff with major repairs to tanks, motors, pumps, lift stations, and vehicles.
  • Attends training, meetings, and committee sessions as directed.
  • Follows job safety requirements and applicable OSHA standards.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance and performs other duties as assigned.
