The Wastewater Operator controls the wastewater treatment plant’s systems and equipment to purify and clarify water for permitted industrial discharge at the Solar Technologies wastewater facility in Hemlock, Michigan. The role maintains operational coverage across scheduled shifts, primarily 12-hour night shifts, and works with Veolia and Solar Technologies personnel to operate and maintain treatment equipment and determine appropriate treatment methods. The operator collects and tests wastewater samples, evaluates lab data, adjusts treatment processes to prevent non-compliance, and maintains accurate client records. The role also completes scheduled preventative maintenance, assists with minor repairs and installation projects, coordinates purchasing and third-party maintenance, and prepares operating reports for management and, as needed, regulatory bodies. Other duties may be assigned, and responsibilities may change over time. The work takes place in a wastewater treatment plant and outdoors, with exposure to extreme weather and potentially hazardous conditions. The position requires physical activity including lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds, climbing ladders, standing for extended periods, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering in tight spaces. The primary shift designation is 12-hour nights, though the operator must be able to work day and night shifts as needed.
