About The Position

The purpose of this position is to ensure the proper amount of chemicals are added to water discharge to comply with local, state and federal guidelines. This role involves applying correct chemicals, making adjustments based on test results, performing various water quality tests, collecting samples, cleaning the system, and ordering chemicals. The operator also participates as a member of a team, fostering cohesiveness and supporting team objectives. They are expected to be familiar with and support the company's operating systems and communicate any concerns or improvement ideas. This position description is intended to guide activities but not limit creativity or scope of work. The role requires the ability to stand for an entire shift, lift up to 65 pounds, navigate stairs, stoop, shovel, and tolerate a wide range of temperatures. The working environment is wet, cold, hot, and may have slippery walking surfaces. The ability to work in tight confined spaces is also necessary. The position requires travel for classes, training, and testing, potentially with overnight stays. Technical experience includes obtaining and maintaining a wastewater license and computer skills. Responsibilities

  • Applies the correct chemicals in the amounts to the water; makes a chemical feed or air adjustment as needed based on test results and evaluation done daily.
  • Performs tests for biological oxygen demand, total suspended solids, oil, grease, and the pH level.
  • Takes water samples on a regular basis to compare with what the standard is and ships it to the appropriate testing facility as required.
  • Completes weekly cleaning of the system; orders chemicals as needed.
  • Participates as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues.
  • Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues.
  • Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
