Requirements

  • High school diploma or successful completion of GED.
  • One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of a variety of mechanical equipment such as camera trucks, wash trucks or closely related experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with air brakes and a (N) tanker endorsement or obtain one within 180 days of employment.
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
  • Knowledge of the terminology, testing devices and related tools used in the electrical field.
  • Ability to read blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks that help keep the City’s wastewater system operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.
  • Work with general guidance and established procedures, with independence to determine how and when to get the job done.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair a variety of mechanical equipment such as camera trucks, wash trucks.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports as needed.
  • Work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Potentially work beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Potentially be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
