About The Position

The Wastewater Treatment Operator operates sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage.

Requirements

  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school.
  • 2 years’ experience working in wastewater treatment plants or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hold a State of Alaska WWTP license LVL 2 in Wastewater or education in water treatment and or an appropriate reciprocal license from an accredited state.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amount such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volumes.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hand to finger, hand, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to climb or balance.
  • Occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, couch, or crawl and tank or hear.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Regularly required to read, speak, write, and understand English; and to use customer service skills.
  • Frequently required to use interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Occasionally required to use independent judgement, discretion, problem analysis, and decision-making skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Grade II Certification in Wastewater and level 2 in water treatment from the State of Alaska is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage.
  • Reads PH levels and add chemicals as needed.
  • Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and test results to determine load requirements.
  • Start and stop pumps that control flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes.
  • Maintains log operations and records meter and gauge readings.
  • Collects sewage sample and conducts laboratory tests.
  • Have a basic understanding of Lab in wastewater to complete compliance paperwork.
  • Rebuild small pumps for sewage in the WWTP.
  • Maintain, operate, and clean all 7 wastewater plants.
  • Be willing to obtain a small system water license for our drinking water.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
  • Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs.
  • Notifies designated personnel of any equipment or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety training.
  • Clean Sewage lift station.
