About The Position

This role involves monitoring wastewater discharges, maintaining water quality, and ensuring environmental compliance. The technician will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment systems, including monitoring equipment, conducting inspections, and documenting data. The position requires a strong commitment to safety and the ability to work independently.

Requirements

  • Experience in handling lab instruments such as pH-meter, scales, etc.
  • At least two (2) years of full-time work experience in a lab environment or wastewater treatment field, hazardous waste management; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor hourly and daily volume of wastewater discharges, ensuring all parameters are within specifications: pH, EC, etc. This should involve both the pumping and the final discharge location.
  • Maintain materials and supplies for Water/Waste Treatment areas.
  • Monitor all wastewater discharge system operations.
  • Maintain water quality monitoring equipment always calibrated, in working and reliable conditions.
  • Conduct and document environmental inspections as required.
  • Demonstrate safe work behavior.
  • Read and follow operating instructions and record data.
  • Use all the required safety equipment.
  • Exhibit good leadership.
  • Work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Read and adjust instruments, valves, and pumps.
  • Transport drums using appropriate equipment.
  • Operate forklift.
  • Operate Pumps: Centrifugal, Positive Displacement, Air Operated Diaphragm, and Gear.
  • Perform general housekeeping and organization of the working areas, sweeping, trash removal, water-blasting, painting, cleaning equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
