About The Position

The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one (1) regular, full-time position in the class of Waste Reduction Recycling Coordinator in the Integrated Waste Division at the Department of Community Services. Under general direction, this non-supervisory classification develops and coordinates the County’s solid waste reduction, household hazardous waste collection, and recycling programs; undertakes a number of educational activities and events to promote public awareness and involvement in solid waste reduction programs and recycling efforts; acts as a liaison between other governmental agencies; is responsible for County solid waste management activities in waste reduction, recycling, and household hazardous waste programs; and performs other related duties as may be required. The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable and collaborative professional with experience in solid waste, recycling, or related environmental programs. They have strong program coordination, analytical, and project management skills and are able to develop, implement, and evaluate programs that support waste reduction and recycling goals. The ideal candidate is also an effective communicator who can interpret and apply environmental regulations, analyze data, prepare reports and recommendations, and build productive relationships with community members, businesses, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university with a major in the physical sciences, business administration, environmental management or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years experience in solid waste reduction, household hazardous waste, recycling programs, or another technical environmental management field.
  • Possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher.
  • Successful completion of 40-hours of Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training is required within the first six (6) months of employment.
