About The Position

The Waste Management Maintenance Subject Matter Expert (SME) reports to the Chemical and Waste Management Programs Manager. The Waste Management SME is responsible for assisting Chemical and Waste Management Programs Manager in identifying waste management external standards and requirements that will ensure protection of the worker, the public and the environment and maintaining compliance with the state and federal regulations, as well as waste management related DOE orders. The Waste Management SME is responsible for assisting Chemical and Waste Management Programs Manager in the development, implementation, compliance and maintenance of the Commissioning Chemical Management Program that implements these external requirements and for assisting line management in the implementation based on the applicability of the mission work scope. This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in development, implementation and management of Department of Energy institutional level programs including at least 4 years of experience in managing waste in an industrial environment.
  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Amentum visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or Science or equivalent education desired.
  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or Science may be substituted for two years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science may be substituted for four years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the applicability of requirements assigned to the Waste Management area of responsibility.
  • Make determinations regarding requirements implementation.
  • Review the applicable requirements for the Waste Management area and allocate and track requirements for implementation.
  • Develop program content, resolve conflict with requirements to ensure requirements are identified and tracked.
  • Elevate unresolved issues related to the Waste Management requirements area.
  • Manage the waste management requirements in the Requirement Management System (RMS)
  • Develop and maintain waste management implementing procedures and program documents
  • Serve in a liaison capacity for development of interface agreements between WTP and the Tank Farm.
  • Maintain knowledge of radioactive waste management requirements found in DOE M 435.1, Radioactive Waste Management Manual
  • Interfaces with other organizations in support of waste characterization activities and methodologies, including laboratory personnel, Plant Engineering, and Process Engineering organizations
  • Perform tasks as assigned within the Commissioning Programs organization to support Plant Operations and the Project.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable waste simulation and composition modeling tools and techniques, and interprets modeling tool outputs for waste characterization and waste designation
  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment
