About The Position

The Waste Management Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating Waycobah First Nation’s waste management and resource recovery operations. Reporting to the Director of Public Works, this role oversees waste disposal services, contractor management, regulatory compliance, and the development of improved waste reduction, reuse, and recycling initiatives within the community. The successful candidate will bring strong environmental knowledge, organizational skills, and a collaborative approach to improve service delivery, promote sustainability, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred
  • 3–5 years of experience in waste management or a related environmental field
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of government waste management regulations and procedures
  • Experience with project and contract management
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with community members, contractors, and external partners
  • Proficiency with computer systems and data management tools is an asset

  • Supervisory experience is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the effective delivery of waste management services and related projects
  • Analyze, develop, and implement waste management strategies, procedures, and guidelines to improve efficiency and compliance
  • Ensure consistent and reliable waste services across the community
  • Work with community members to promote waste reduction, reuse, and recycling initiatives
  • Support increased awareness of sustainable waste practices
  • Manage and oversee contracts related to curbside collection and waste services
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, environmental standards, health and safety regulations, and best practices
  • Maintain up-to-date environmental, safety, and risk management protocols
  • Collect, analyze, and compile waste data and prepare reports as required
  • Provide recommendations and reports to the Director of Public Works and senior management
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and service delivery
  • Support innovation in waste management practices and environmental stewardship
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Public Works
