About The Position

Action Carting Environmental Services/ Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Waste Collection Roll Off Driver to work out of their Bronx Depot. This is a full-time, Union, non-exempt, hourly position with an overnight schedule starting between 7pm and 9pm, Sunday evening through Friday evening, though this may vary based on business needs. Shifts can range from 10 to 12 hours or until the route is completed. The primary responsibility is to safely operate a Roll-Off Truck for the pick-up service of containers filled with waste or recyclable material, transporting them to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities. Drivers may make multiple trips per shift. The company emphasizes safety, customer service, and maintaining a family-style culture within a large corporate structure.

Requirements

At least 21 years of age.
Legally eligible to work in the United States.
Valid Class A or B CDL with airbrake endorsement.
Clean driving record.
At least 1 year of experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL A or B within the last 7 years.
At least 1 year of experience driving and operating a Roll Off Truck.
Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA and applicable traffic regulations.
Ability to speak and read English well enough to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and make legible entries on reports and records.
Ability to read and understand a map.
Ability to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
Willingness and ability to work required hours, which may include weekends, nights, and/or holidays, as allowed under DOT regulation.

Nice To Haves

Experience as a Driver or Helper for a refuse company is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Safely operate a Roll-Off Truck for the pick-up service of containers filled with waste or recyclable material.
Transport material to a disposal, transfer or recycle facility, potentially making multiple trips.
Continuously monitor for safety and service-related issues, and report any issues with containers or equipment to the Route Supervisor or Dispatch.
Be responsible and accountable for the safety of oneself, colleagues, trucks, and other equipment/property.
Immediately notify Route Supervisor or Dispatch of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle using the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report) and note all issues for corrective review/repair.
Communicate professionally with customers and Dispatchers, including receiving and responding courteously to complaints about schedules and quality of service.
Notify Dispatch or Route Manager of issues as prescribed by Service Machine protocol, including blocked containers, potential missed pick-ups, or problems on the route.
Communicate customer requests or issues to Dispatch or Route Manager.
Completely dump all containers and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
Complete and submit customer tickets when excess yardage must be removed.
Position containers on the customer’s property to ensure lids are properly replaced, containers are set upright, and do not block driveways or traffic.
Work closely with Route Supervisor to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings.
Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
