About The Position

The Marathon Galveston Bay Refinery has an opening for an Environmental Engineer/Specialist focusing on waste and wastewater environmental programs. The Environmental Engineer/Specialist will perform a variety of tasks to support and ensure environmental compliance across refinery operations. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, leading and supporting the development, implementation and monitoring of waste and wastewater programs and policies to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required with five (5) years of relevant environmental experience in process industry (e.g., refining, midstream, petrochemical, or other heavy industrial), or Bachelor’s degree in a HES related field with no relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with no relevant experience.
  • Conceptual knowledge of environmental compliance and regulatory framework
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with waste and wastewater environmental compliance programs.
  • Environmental experience in petrochemical industry.
  • Experience with compliance management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage waste and wastewater environmental programs which may include: Benzene Waste Operations (BWON), New Source Performance Standards, subpart QQQ (NSPS QQQ), and Texas Highly-Reactive Volatile Organic Compounds (HRVOC) regulations related to wastewater air emissions.
  • National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Ground and Surface Water Use, as well as Potable Water programs.
  • Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC), Groundwater Remediation, Remediation Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT), and spill clean-up.
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) (Large Quantity Generator) waste management.
  • Serve as a technical resource for assigned programs, ensuring programs are in conformance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Review new regulations for potential impacts on the refinery.
  • Develop and maintain environmental programs, procedures, and management systems, and conduct appropriate training sessions.
  • Review refinery projects for regulatory compliance and develop compliance schedules.
  • Participate on a cross-functional Area Team to support day-to-day operation of the refinery in compliance with applicable requirements and site performance goals.
  • Lead and participate in field audits and incident investigations, developing and implementing corrective actions as required.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and provide required verbal and written reports.
  • Provide on-call support to a 24/7 operating facility.
