About The Position

Perform routine cleaning, fueling, detailing, and basic maintenance support for district school buses and white fleet vehicles to ensure vehicles are clean, safe, fueled, and ready for daily operation. Assist the transportation department in maintaining a safe and efficient fleet operation while supporting mechanics and transportation staff as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid Texas driver’s license required
  • Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements required or ability to obtain within district-established timeline
  • Valid TxDOT physical required
  • School Bus Driver Safety Training 20-hour course required or ability to complete upon hire
  • Knowledge of safe vehicle washing and detailing procedures
  • Ability to safely operate pressure washers, fuel pumps, and related equipment
  • Knowledge of proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals and fuels
  • Ability to identify and report mechanical defects or safety concerns
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in fleet maintenance, vehicle detailing, transportation operations, or related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Wash, clean, and detail district school buses and white fleet vehicles using pressure washers, steam cleaners, and other cleaning equipment.
  • Clean interiors by sweeping floors, wiping seats, cleaning windows, and sanitizing high-touch surfaces.
  • Remove trash, dirt, mud, road debris, and other materials from vehicles.
  • Repair and replace bus seat covers as needed.
  • Fuel all district buses and white fleet vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Check and replenish fluid levels including oil, coolant, transmission fluid, windshield washer fluid, and Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF).
  • Monitor fuel island operations and report equipment malfunctions or fuel concerns.
  • Safely move, park, and position buses and fleet vehicles within the transportation yard.
  • Drive regular morning and afternoon bus routes as assigned.
  • Monitor transportation yard areas for safety hazards and report concerns immediately.
  • Keep wash bay, fuel island, maintenance shop, and surrounding work areas clean, organized, and free of debris or spills.
  • Assist mechanics with minor repairs and shop duties as assigned.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and notify supervisor when supplies are needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of washing, fueling, inspections, and other work performed on vehicles.
  • Observe all district safety procedures and transportation department regulations.
  • Report vehicle damage, mechanical concerns, unsafe conditions, or equipment malfunctions to the head mechanic or transportation supervisor.
  • Follow all federal, state, and district policies regarding transportation operations and safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director, Head Mechanic, or supervisor.
