About The Position

Avondale Global Gateway is a 254-acre former shipyard on Mile 108 of the Mississippi River, redeveloped into a multimodal logistics terminal with significant warehousing and storage capabilities. T. Parker Host acquired Avondale in 2018 from Huntington Ingalls Industries and has since reestablished its iconic prominence into a model of ingenuity. Avondale Global Gateway is a historic property with four docks and over one mile of waterfront, uniquely accommodating ships, barges, rail and trucks. This facility offers immediate access to the regional and interstate highway system and is positioned at the interchange of six Class I railroads, creating the ability for cargo to be distributed in all directions. Avondale Global Gateway has become integral to HOST’s continued efforts of shifting the transportation paradigm and rethinking how cargo moves – providing exceptional service and solutions to our customers. In this position, the Warehouse Team Lead will oversee and coordinate all workers engaged in the warehousing operations for loading and discharging of break-bulk and project cargo for vessels, rail and truck drivers. In addition, will cross train and learn about other bespoke operations in order to support peak days inside the terminal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree OR HS diploma / GED with 3+ years’ experience in operations including employee supervision
  • Forklift certification
  • Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS)
  • Knowledge of lean warehousing or continuous improvement practices
  • Ability to respond to issues quickly, safely and effectively in a fast-paced, stressful operating environment
  • Self- starter with leadership, communication, analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license and TWIC or ability to obtain a TWIC required

Nice To Haves

  • In depth knowledge of warehousing operations (inventory management, FIFO, LIFO, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Advocates for proper safety through communication, administration, and compliance with all safety, operating, environmental and business procedures/standards, policies and management directives
  • Daily operations meetings
  • Oversee gang structuring and ensure efficiency
  • Safety meetings before every shift
  • Observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Work closely with terminal employees to ensure product transfers are completed in a safe and timely manner
  • Develops skills of workers to stimulate a stronger/safer labor force
  • Promotes teamwork and communication throughout the warehousing operation
  • Serve as a point of contact for shift-level issues and escalate as needed
  • Coordinate daily workflow for receiving, picking, packing, staging, and shipping
  • Ensure orders are fulfilled accurately and on time
  • Monitor productivity, labor utilization, and workflow efficiency
  • Identify hazards and report or correct unsafe conditions
  • Document incidents, attendance, and operational concerns as required
  • Collaborate with other departments (transportation, customer service, maintenance)
  • Utilize WMS and DC systems to track productivity, inventory, and order status
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as pick rates, dock-to-stock, and ship accuracy
  • Supervises workers engaged in checking and loading cargo to make sure that cargo is loaded in specified sequence in accordance with shipping instructions
