About The Position

The Warehouse Supervisor plays a key role in enabling Smitty's to achieve its vision: to inspire connections and create warmth in every home. You do this by providing hands-on, day-to-day supervision of our warehouse team, ensuring product moves safely, accurately, and on time from receiving through to delivery, and by acting as the front-line leader for health and safety in the warehouse. This role is Monday to Friday generally 40 hours per week with flexibility for various work demands.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • 3+ years of experience in a warehouse, distribution, or logistics environment, including experience leading or supervising others
  • Understanding of Occupational Health & Safety requirements
  • Lift truck certification (or ability to obtain certification through Smitty's training)
  • Ability to use Microsoft products (Word, Excel, SharePoint etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

  • post-secondary education in Business, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related field is an asset
  • supervisor-level health and safety training is an asset
  • Experience in the home furnishings industry is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new software programs; experience with inventory or ERP systems is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Front-line supervision of the warehouse team, including shipping, receiving, and customer pickups
  • Supervise, coach, and support warehouse team members in a manner consistent with the Company's values and culture
  • Assign daily tasks and adjust priorities to meet receiving, loading, and delivery schedules
  • Support the Director of Operations with scheduling, time off coverage, and shift planning
  • Ensure all team members receive job-specific and SOP training
  • Provide input to the Director of Operations on hiring, performance reviews, and coaching conversations
  • Initiate open and candid conversations with team members and escalate performance or conduct concerns promptly
  • Maintain regular team huddles to ensure the efficient and timely flow of information
  • Ensure team members work in compliance with the OHSA and Smitty's health and safety policies, practices, and SOPs; recognize compliance and correct non-compliance
  • Perform workplace inspections and ensure identified hazards are classified, reported, and corrected according to Smitty's hazard classification process
  • Conduct safety talks and information meetings covering safety, staff issues, and product issues
  • Be present at accident and incident investigations and ensure reports are completed and forwarded promptly
  • Enforce PPE requirements, including approved steel-toed footwear in all warehouse areas
  • Ensure only trained and certified team members operate lift trucks and that pre-use safety inspections are completed and signed off
  • Support workplace injury management with the Director of Operations and Human Resources, including injury reporting and return to work processes
  • Oversee the day-to-day flow of shipping, receiving, customer pickups, and transfers between locations
  • Ensure incoming product is inspected, and shipment damage is documented to support recovery of vendor credits
  • Ensure product is received, staged, and stored in an efficient and orderly manner
  • Supervise pre-delivery inspection and assembly so product leaves the warehouse delivery-ready
  • Oversee the accurate loading of delivery vehicles against the daily delivery schedule
  • Assist with product display arrangements at Showroom and assistance with installation of new product
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through proper handling, location management, and cycle counts
  • Ensure lift trucks, material handling equipment, and warehouse tools are maintained, inspected before use, and safe to operate
  • Maintain a neat, organized, and hazard-free warehouse through consistent housekeeping standards
  • Maintain the properties of Smitty’s ensuring that they remain clean, free from debris, and in winter ensuring the sidewalks are cleared and salted
  • Report equipment defects and facility maintenance needs to the Operations Manager
  • Other related duties as may be assigned
