About The Position

Established in 1926, Mutual Trading Co., Inc. was originally a small co-op organization for centralized purchasing of basic import foods to service the needs of the early Japanese immigrant society in Southern California. They have grown nearly 100 years old and command a premiere position among Japanese foodservice suppliers, as well as fill a key role as "Culinary Ambassador" promoting Japanese foods worldwide. Since 2011, their affiliate, Yamasho Inc., provides a variety of restaurant items ranging from non-food to dry and frozen food products to restaurant customers in Elk Grove, IL. The company is dedicated to meet and exceed customers’ expectations and create a unique experience with the explosion of Japanese food and culture in America. This position is for a Warehouse Supervisor on the 2nd Shift.

Requirements

  • Business level English – Read/write/speak/listen
  • To have and maintain a clean driving record
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and afterhours as needed
  • High school Diploma or equivalent experience required
  • 5+ years of warehousing experience required
  • 2+ years of managerial experience required
  • Good mathematical skills – ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages
  • Exceptional managerial skills
  • Excellent mentoring, coaching, and people management skills

Nice To Haves

  • Other language such as Spanish and Japanese preferred
  • B.S. or B.A. in business management, industrial management or related field preferred
  • Knowledge of Japanese/Asian foods and kitchen supplies preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a staffing structure for effective warehouse and distribution operations.
  • Interview, hire, train, motivate, monitor, and evaluate warehouse associates and drivers.
  • Approve PTO, Vacation, and timecard function on ADP
  • Ensure associates can safely operate material handling equipment.
  • Evaluate and streamline warehouse and distribution procedures for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Monitor material handling from receiving to distribution, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., DOT, OSHA, FDA HACCP).
  • Oversee the rotation of inventories and proper storage to conserve space and comply with safety procedures.
  • Coordinate truck drivers, delivery routes, and loading operations.
  • Meet with managers and supervisors to discuss products, receiving/shipping times, and distribution issues.
  • Anticipate and request funding for future personnel and material handling equipment needs.
  • Oversee the movement of materials from receiving to warehouse and distribution.
  • Maintain equipment for safe and effective warehouse operations; research and procure suitable material handling equipment.
  • Responsible for truck and forklift maintenance.
  • Conduct semiannual inventory counts, possibly on weekends.
  • Collect payments and generate receipts for will-call customers.
  • Create invoices, update and maintain sales orders, invoices, pick lists, and bill-back data in the company database.
  • Report inventory or service issues to the manager immediately.
  • Collaborate with the sales staff to ensure orders are completed.
  • Distribute will-call orders to warehouse personnel for picking, packing, and shipping.
  • Receive, dispatch, and manage warehouse stock, overseeing distribution operations.
  • Develop and coordinate warehouse operating procedures for shipping, receiving, transporting, and handling materials.
  • Review and organize shipping documents, directing the movement of materials and products.
  • Perform administrative duties such as contacting vendors for equipment repairs, PPE ordering, and maintaining truck maintenance records.
  • Attend company events and functions outside of normal working hours.
  • Obligation to respond to management as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Picks and assembles customer orders as indicated on the pick list.
  • Completes door to door deliveries by driving company truck on assigned route
  • Maintains and safely navigates the Company vehicle
  • Documents, records, and completes driver log when making deliveries
  • Receives product deliveries and unloads delivery trucks in a timely manner
  • Inspects received products for damage and volume accuracy and documents accordingly
  • Accurately stocks inventory in the assigned warehouse location and rotates product inventory to maintain a First-IN, First-OUT (FIFO) food storage system
  • Partakes in warehouse upkeep and ensures the stockroom is clean and organized
