About The Position

Gustave A. Larson is a leading wholesale distributor of HVAC, and Refrigeration (HVACR) equipment, parts, and supplies. This role requires leadership and team management, overseeing all employees associated with the functions of the Distribution Center, providing direction and scheduling. The position involves utilizing Epicor Prophet 21 (P21), warehouse management systems (WMS), RF scanners, and ERP software to manage daily operations, monitor order status, receiving transactions, inventory movements, and shipping documentation. The role also includes training employees on system processes and standard operating procedures, and supporting continuous process improvements through technology and automation. The position will initially train at the Arlington Heights location and then move to the new Elk Grove Village location once open.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of warehouse leadership experience in wholesale distribution (HVAC/R, plumbing, electrical, industrial, or building materials preferred).
  • Experience with Epicor Prophet 21 (P21), WMS, or similar ERP systems.
  • Working knowledge of warehouse KPIs and inventory control best practices.
  • OSHA safety knowledge and forklift certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong communication, coaching, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong leadership skills.
  • Proactive, ability to work independently and execute multiple job duties.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Periods of physical exertion are required (i.e. lifting, walking, standing, and stooping).
  • Effective Team Player; cooperates and interacts well with customers and members of Gustave A. Larson Company.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a supervisory and/or management role.
  • Forklift certification and warehouse experience.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be skilled in verbal and written communication and have sufficient education to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must have basic math skills and able to perform or learn the requirements of the job within the assigned learning period.
  • Required to accept and follow all safety rules and policies, including the use of all mandated safety protective equipment.
  • Individual must agree to take pre-employment drug test and background check and comply with all Company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all employees associated with the functions of the Distribution Center, providing leadership, direction, and scheduling.
  • Utilize Epicor Prophet 21 (P21), warehouse management systems (WMS), RF scanners, and ERP software to manage daily operations.
  • Monitor order status, receiving transactions, inventory movements, and shipping documentation.
  • Train employees on system processes and standard operating procedures.
  • Support continuous process improvements through technology and automation.
  • Load and unload trucks and trailers, pull refill/order memos, stock items, perform data entry, and check products against shipping orders.
  • Process UPS shipments.
  • Check-in freight upon receipt and process inter-branch refills/order memos.
  • Document freight damage and complete DOT reports.
  • Instruct personnel in basic safety and material handling procedures.
  • Transport materials within the warehouse.
  • Operate and assist in regular maintenance of electric powered forklifts, fleet, and equipment, ensuring they are maintained in a safe, reliable condition and preventing damage of material during handling.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, audits, and process improvements.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies promptly.
  • Ensure proper product storage, labeling, lot control, and stock rotation.
  • Monitor damaged, obsolete, and returned inventory.
  • Support annual physical inventory activities.
  • Coordinate daily delivery routes and fleet loading activities.
  • Verify delivery accuracy, documentation, and on-time departures.
  • Work closely with drivers to resolve delivery issues and improve efficiency.
  • Monitor vehicle loading practices to ensure safety and product protection.
  • Champion OSHA compliance and company safety initiatives.
  • Ensure all powered industrial equipment operators maintain forklift certification.
  • Conduct routine warehouse safety inspections and safety meetings.
  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain compliance with hazardous material handling and HVAC/R refrigerant storage requirements.
