About The Position

This position is responsible for implementing the company’s safety program, managing a department, and supervising subordinates. The role involves directing material movement, communicating customer shipping issues, maintaining vehicle maintenance reports, and overseeing outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness. The supervisor will also be responsible for enforcing company policies and procedures, including safety, housekeeping, attendance, quality, and administrative aspects. Additionally, the role involves assisting subordinates with training and emergency situations, and participating in the Lean Six Sigma process.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or 3-5 years shipping or other relevant experience required, with demonstrated success in safety, team building and establishing expectations/account abilities for employees within span of control.
  • Ability to learn technical aspects of assigned responsibilities quickly.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to use proper mathematical equations.
  • Superior communication skills and leadership abilities.
  • Demonstrated manufacturing management and team leadership skills with the ability to drive strategic decisions and detailed implementation plans.
  • Proven success interacting with peers, senior management and other functional areas to assure the best overall manufacturing strategy is developed and executed at the lowest total cost.
  • Experience evaluating current processes and developing sound recommendations for improvement.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship, now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the company’s safety program to ensure safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment.
  • Manage a department and supervise the work of two or more subordinates.
  • Recommend the hiring, firing, discipline, promotion and demotion of employees within span of control.
  • Effectively communicate departmental and plant wide goals to employees in a productive manner.
  • Direct the movement of materials from shipping platform to storage/delivery locations.
  • Ensure all trucks are loaded in a complete and timely manner and depart on time.
  • Communicate customer related shipping issues to appropriate personnel: Customer Service Reps, Shipping Coordinators, Customers, Production Supervisor, etc.
  • Maintain vehicle maintenance reports.
  • Study shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments and shipping methods required to meet shipping schedules.
  • Develop written and verbal instructions.
  • Prepare composite reports from individual reports of subordinates.
  • Adjust for errors and complaints by identifying root causes of errors and complaints and work with others to implement necessary changes to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Ensure that subordinates inspect machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Develop or revise standard operational and job safe practices and observe workers to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Resolve worker grievances/complaints or submit unsettled grievances to next level of management for action.
  • Oversee outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
  • Determine space requirements and position of shipment in trucks and lay out position of shipment.
  • Ensure that subordinates submit all required paperwork on time and the paperwork is complete, accurate, and legible.
  • Compile records of unfilled orders, post weight and shipping charges, and prepare bills of lading.
  • Determine routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of states.
  • Inspect loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seal loaded truck doors.
  • Enforce all company policies and procedures, which includes safety, housekeeping, attendance, quality, and administrative.
  • Assist subordinates with assigned tasks for training purposes or in emergency situations.
  • Participate in the Lean Six Sigma process by volunteering for LSS projects and education.
