About The Position

The Warehouse Supervisor I is responsible for supervising warehouse employees in the basic functions of housing products, selecting orders, and preparing them for delivery to members efficiently. This role is crucial for ensuring the productive, timely, and quality shipment and/or receiving of all products for member stores. The supervisor is expected to increase production, effectively utilize the workforce to maximize efficiency, and reduce warehouse operating expenses. They will direct the placement of the workforce based on changing needs during the shift, and are responsible for hiring, training, developing, recognizing, and evaluating employee performance. A key aspect of the role is to foster an atmosphere of open communication and a positive working environment, while ensuring enforcement and education of company safety, sanitation, security, and operational standards. This includes reducing safety risks, minimizing exposure, conducting audits, training employees, making inspections, praising safe practices, managing work-related injuries, and conducting accident investigations. The supervisor will also administer disciplinary actions, oversee the resolution of employee complaints or grievances, and conduct pre-shift meetings to communicate daily goals, member needs, and safety issues. They will communicate operational issues and improvements to the Warehouse Manager and ensure compliance with state, federal, and AWG policies, laws, and regulations. The role requires working cooperatively and with integrity, tact, and consideration towards members, associates, and management.

Requirements

  • One to two years supervisory experience and/or experience working in a grocery warehouse environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Warehouse mobile equipment certification/license.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise warehouse employees in basic functions of housing products in the warehouse, select orders, and prepare for delivery to members in the most efficient manner.
  • Responsible for the productive, timely and quality shipment and/or receiving of all products for member stores.
  • Increase production and effectively utilize the workforce to maximize efficiency and reduce warehouse operating expenses.
  • Direct the placement of the workforce responding to the changing needs during the shift.
  • Hire, train, develop, recognize, and evaluate the performance of all employees on the shift.
  • Provide an atmosphere of open and honest communications and a positive working environment.
  • Enforcement and education of company safety, sanitation, security and standards of operation.
  • Responsible for reducing safety risks and minimizing exposure by working with team to ensure all safety policies and practices are followed. Conduct audits, train employees, make inspections and observations, praise and acknowledge good safe practices, manage work related injuries to minimize loss and conduct complete accident investigations on all incidents.
  • Administer disciplinary action per divisional policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the resolution of employee complaints or grievances to facilitate a proper resolution.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings with teams to communicate daily goals, member needs, safety issues and problem areas that need to be addressed.
  • Communicate with the Warehouse Manager problem areas, improvements, etc., regarding the warehouse center’s operation.
  • Responsible for seeing that state, federal and AWG safety, sanitation, and governmental policies, laws and regulations are maintained and adhered to.
  • Work as a member of the AWG team so the total job responsibilities are met. Actions must always stress a sense of cooperation, integrity, tact and consideration with our members, associates and division management.
