About The Position

This position assists in the receipt, delivery of mail, storage and control of furniture, supplies and equipment. The role is responsible for the receipt and distribution of warehouse stock, including equipment, maintenance supplies, custodial supplies, office supplies, instructional resources, and surplus/salvage items to various locations throughout the district. It involves loading and unloading delivery trucks, receiving shipments by counting, weighing, or measuring items and comparing them to packing lists or purchase orders, and recording any discrepancies or damage. The position also requires maintaining manual and electronic documents, files, and records for various purposes, driving vehicles for transportation of orders and mail, operating warehouse equipment for moving heavy items, participating in physical inventories, preparing orders by pulling from stock, and responding to inquiries from staff and vendors. The employee is expected to keep the warehouse and vehicles clean and orderly, report unsafe conditions, follow performance procedures, and wear provided uniforms and safety shoes. No supervisory responsibilities are included in this role. This position is open to current Gadsden ISD employees only.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge and observance of safety precautions.
  • Operate a forklift and/or pallet jack.
  • Must be able to perform basic data input on a computer.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Two (2) years warehouse experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to properly use and care for job related tools and equipment.
  • Frequent District wide travel.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the receipt and distribution of warehouse stock to include, but not limited to: equipment, maintenance supplies, custodial supplies, office supplies, instructional resources, surplus/ salvage items, and other items stocked in the warehouse to and from various location throughout the district.
  • Loads and unloads delivery trucks for the purpose of receiving stock and/or filling orders for transport.
  • Receives shipments by counting, weighing or measuring items and comparing size, weight or description to information on packing lists and/ or purchase orders.
  • Records discrepancies or damage.
  • Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. shipping accounts, purchase orders, fixed asset records, bar-coding, inventory, returns, monthly warehouse report, surplus property, electronic delivery logs, book depository, incoming freight shipments, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, and providing materials and reliable resource information.
  • Drives vehicles for the purpose of transporting orders, delivering mail, parcels and special delivery of registered and certified mail and other material.
  • Operates warehouse equipment for the purpose of moving large and heavy items safely and effectively.
  • Participates in physical inventories for the purpose of verifying stock and identifying losses.
  • Prepares orders by pulling from stock for the purpose of meeting delivery requirements.
  • Responds to inquiries of staff and vendors for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding the invoices, billing and status of deliveries.
  • Keeps warehouse and vehicles clean, orderly and free of hazardous conditions.
  • Reports unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Follows performance procedures in Maintenance Operations Handbook.
  • Wears uniform and safety shoes provided by Gadsden ISD.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
