About The Position

The Warehouse Operator is responsible for reading the production schedule, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed. This role involves transporting materials, sorting and placing items on racks or shelves, assembling customer orders, and preparing parcels for mailing. The operator will also record inventory, mark materials, and compile worksheets. Safety is a key component, requiring the use of safety glasses and steel-toed shoes, adherence to proper lifting techniques, and participation in hazard communication training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to climb or balance.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Reads production schedule, customer order, work order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
  • Works overtime when needed.
  • Transports material and other items from receiving or production areas to storage or to other designated areas.
  • Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
  • Assembles customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves, or conveys orders to packing station or shipping department.
  • Marks materials with identifying information and opens bales, crates, and other containers.
  • Records amounts of materials or items received or distributed and weighs or counts items for distribution within plant to ensure conformance to company standards.
  • Arranges stock parts in specified sequence for assembly by other workers.
  • Operates shipping labeling equipment and UPS machine.
  • Prepares parcels for mailing.
  • Compiles worksheets or tickets from customer specifications.
  • Completes requisition forms to order supplies from other plant departments.
  • Wears safety eye glasses and steel-toed shoes.
  • Follows proper lifting techniques.
  • Participates in hazard communication training.
  • Understands emergency procedures.
