About The Position

Abode, one of the largest and effective nonprofits working to end homelessness in the Bay Area, is seeking a Warehouse Material Handler for our warehouse facility in Sunnyvale, CA. The warehouse material handler position primarily assists with moving furniture within the warehouse, spraying/tagging all incoming donations, entering them into inventory, and unloading/organizing donations. Through our location and partnerships with over 100 social service agencies, public schools, and faith communities, we help on average 75 families every month to stabilize their lives by providing them with the basics that turn their housing into more comfortable, functional homes. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Strong attention to detail

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to take and follow detailed directions
  • Ability to complete basic paperwork and reports

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings
  • Communicate effectively with others and visually read a variety of materials
  • Manual dexterity for use of keyboard, tools, controls; repetitive motion that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Ability to drive and sit in a car for prolonged periods
  • Ability to move between floors, including ascending and descending stairs
  • Ability to squat, bend at the waist, crouch, reach overhead and horizontally, and kneel

Responsibilities

  • Review daily schedule and assignments with the Warehouse Lead or direct supervisor
  • Load delivery trucks with furniture from the staging area
  • Assist with local deliveries, including lifting and placing furniture in homes or facilities (may involve stairs or elevator access)
  • Unload trucks returning from deliveries and donation pickups
  • Clean furniture thoroughly and perform furniture repair and refurbishment as needed
  • Assemble purchased furniture as required
  • Support on-site volunteer activities, including setting up tables and assisting during volunteer projects
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the warehouse and delivery truck daily
  • Follow safety procedures and proper lifting techniques
  • Perform other duties as assigned
