About The Position

This role is responsible for performing all areas in the Warehouse, including unloading and receiving shipments, transporting product to manufacturing, preparing outbound freight shipments, and monitoring receiving and shipping traffic to ensure efficient utilization of docks and supply of materials. The position involves working with supervisors to monitor shift performance, correct issues, and recommend improvements. It also includes training and developing employees through mentoring, reinforcing company policies, and ensuring proper guidance and resources. The role also involves assisting in writing Standard Operating Procedures, operating warehouse machinery safely, assigning tasks, monitoring processes, verifying employee paperwork, and communicating with other departments to meet production schedules. Active participation in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis, and ensuring compliance with safety, food safety, and cGMP guidelines are also key aspects of this position. The role supports a culture of safety by exhibiting safe work practices and actively participating in the safety program.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Prior experience operating Turret trucks, Dock Stockers, Powered Pallet Jacks, Dock Plates and other raised platform vehicles required.
Experience in a warehousing, manufacturing environment, preferably food or pharmaceuticals, required.
Ability to work in all work centers in the Warehouse to make decisions on resource allocation and scheduling on a daily basis.
Ability to work in all areas of the Receiving warehouse to support the team, including ability to work in Receiving at both the 391 AND 395 Bloomingdale facilities.
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals (S.O.P.).
Ability to accurately complete sanitation/Warehouse paperwork.
Truthfully and legibly completes required paperwork, written and electronic reports (i.e. Excel, Word, Oracle, etc.).
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals to understand weights and measures and to use scales.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Solid knowledge of inventory control, warehousing process, and ability to troubleshoot inventory discrepancies.
PIT license and PIT trainer certification required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Oracle required.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including off shifts and weekends as needed to support the business.
Regularly required to talk and hear; stand, walk (prolonged), and sit; squat and kneel; ascend and descend stairs; reach with hands and arms; use hands to handle or grasp controls of lift trucks; use feet to depress foot controls of lift trucks; and use a computer.
Required to access product on floor or low shelves; and to operate a hand truck or forklift with a 24-inch step.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
Ability to go to heights of up to 26 feet when operating PIT.
Must regularly lift, move (in some cases drag items), raise and/or place: Palletize boxes and unload conveyor onto trailer - Lift up to 50 lb. boxes from floor to 36 inches. Lift up to 25 lbs. from waist to overhead.
Move pallets - Raise up to 55 lb. box from floor to one side, carry up to 10 feet and return to original position.
Load pallet - Lift up to 38 lbs. from 5 inches to 36 inches and return to 5 inches.
Load pallet onto order picker - Lift up to 15 lbs. from waist to waist height with 90 degree turn.
Move pallet jacks - Push and pull with force of up to 42 lbs. at 36 inch height.
Open and close overhead dock doors and trailer doors - Pull down with 70 lbs. of force from 75 inches and pull up with 70 lbs. of force from 9 inches.
Grasp up to 80 lbs. of force.

Nice To Haves

Additional post-secondary education and prior team leadership experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge of Lean principles and continuous improvement preferred.
Bi-lingual verbal and written skills in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

Works with supervisor to monitor shift’s performance and efficiency and corrects or escalates issues to meet daily department goals.
Recommends changes related to equipment use and staff to increase efficiency.
Keeps supervisor informed of problem areas.
Works with other leads, supervisors and support teams to solve issues.
Recommends and implements measures to improve safety, product quality, warehouse methods, and equipment performance.
Makes employee work duty adjustments and warehouse related decisions.
Engages in training and development of employees by mentoring and following up with team members on a regular basis, reinforcing company policies, culture, and expectations.
Ensures employees feel supported, are receiving proper guidance, training, resources and are adapting to the company’s culture and team.
Works with supervisor to include any gaps into their training plan and ensures all employees are current on required training.
Develops and/or assists in writing Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, and One Point Lessons for all tasks within department.
Operates all warehouse machinery (i.e. PIT) in a proficient and safe manner.
Assigns jobs and tasks and monitors the warehouse processes.
Reviews and verifies employees' paperwork before turning into the Quality Control department for approval.
Closes warehouse record reports and informs inventory control personnel of any raw material discrepancies.
Interprets and explains company policies, specifications and job orders to employees.
Responds to and answers questions from employees.
Communicates with other departments to provide supplies, products and equipment necessary to meet Production schedules.
Actively participates in root cause analysis and other plant continuous improvement initiatives.
Works closely with supervisors and cross-functional teams to identify trends and areas of improvement and implement and sustain continuous improvement initiatives.
Complies with OSHA guidelines, safety policies, food safety and cGMP guidelines.
Ensures through monitoring and coaching that the Warehouse team is following all guidelines and policies.
Supports a culture of safe warehouse and exhibits safe work practices.
Actively participates in the safety program by engaging in safety activities.
Effectively provides and accepts constructive peer-to-peer feedback on safety performance.
Adheres to policies, procedures, SOP’s, safe work practices, and safety policies and procedures.
Reports ALL workplace incidents to supervisor immediately.
Communicates concerns to supervisor, reports hazards, and provides input on prevention.
Properly uses, wears, and stores Personal Protective Equipment when required.
Participates on safety teams and/or completes safety-related activities as part of regular job responsibilities.
