About The Position

Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is the state’s largest hunger relief organization and one of the leading food banks in the Feeding America Network. In addition to vital hunger relief programs in our 21-county service area, we also operate Fresh Connect Central, a regional produce cooperative for Feeding America, serve as a contract reclamation site for Kroger Central Division, and are a staging site for FEMA disaster response. The Warehouse Customer Service Associate will predominantly work on the Gleaners Shipping Dock and agency drive through pick up area “chute,” including tasks such as load and unload shipments, fulfill orders from dry warehouse area, inventory, replenish product in pick bins, and order fulfillment with accuracy in all activity. The Warehouse Customer Service Associate will work with other staff members and customers to include Freezer needs, Cooler needs and Janitorial needs daily. All responsibilities and duties will further Gleaners’ mission to be a leader in the fight against hunger.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to read, write and to understand written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic math proficiency, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with the ability to count accurately.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to discharge the Essential Functions of the position as set forth above.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in customer service is desired.
  • Knowledge and experience performing warehouse functions (safety procedures, put-away, replenishment, inventory, order-fulfillment and shipment, etc.) preferred.
  • Prior experience operating a forklift or reach truck preferred.
  • Demonstrate accountability, reliability, and ability to consistently meet deadlines and performance expectations.
  • Professional and respectful communication skills when interacting with staff, partner agencies, volunteers, and donors.
  • Working knowledge of warehouse inventory best practices.
  • Ability to inspect produce and identify items that meet quality standards.

  • Powered Industrial Truck (PIT, pallet jack, forklift, etc.) certification and experience preferred (or ability to be certified).

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload shipments.
  • Fulfill orders from dry warehouse area.
  • Inventory and replenish product in pick bins.
  • Order fulfillment with accuracy in all activity.
  • Work with other staff members and customers to include Freezer needs, Cooler needs and Janitorial needs daily.
  • Be the face of Gleaners when agencies arrive to pick up their orders.
  • Load outbound orders into agency partner vehicles using powered equipment (forklift, reach truck).
  • Stock and maintain Agency Blowout area.
  • Perform housekeeping responsibilities as necessary.
  • Assist Agency Partners with orders, ensuring agency documentation is accurate vs the order.
  • Replenishment, order-fulfillment (by both case and pallet quantities), mid-day inventory movements for future orders.
  • Prepare product for distribution (including wrapping pallets and labeling orders).
  • Ship product to the endpoint destination.
  • Take directions as indicated by multiple sources: document, scanner or other instruction.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with Supervisor; immediately notify Supervisor/Manager of any concerns that may arise.
  • Keep workstation clean.
  • Organize, separate, stack and putting unusable pallets on the recycle trailer.
  • Change tasks and assignments as the needs of our Distribution Center require including assisting in other areas as needed.
  • Work safely and accurately with minimal supervision.
  • Operate PIT equipment according to Gleaners and OSHA guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance and adherence to all food safety guidelines according to GFB, Feeding America, AIB, USDA, ISDH and any other applicable processes or regulations for safe and sanitary production and storage of all products.
  • All other duties as assigned.
