About The Position

The principal responsibility of the Janitor is to ensure the proper cleaning and maintenance of the facility in accordance with the contract requirements. This role involves performing detailed custodial functions, including floor care, cleaning various areas, stocking supplies, and ensuring a safe and clean environment. The position also requires adherence to safety protocols, including spill response, safe lifting techniques, and proper operation of equipment like the cardboard baler.

Requirements

Ability to provide cleaning services within a commercial, industrial or residential environment.
Must have solid work ethics.
Demonstrated history of related cleaning experience preferably with a major institution, and a solid work ethic.
Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Stands and moves within assigned work area, or building for 6 to 7 hours (excluding breaks and lunch)
Some bending, stooping and reaching
Must be 18+ years old (for baler operation)

Responsibilities

Empty all trash receptacles in designated areas in accordance with the daily work schedules.
Perform detailed custodial functions including floor care.
Perform standard janitorial duties including dusting, detailing, vacuuming, sanitizing, waxing, buffing and stripping floors, and cleaning restrooms, common areas, and windows.
Clean all table tops, fixtures, file cabinets, desks, dividers, partitions, elevator doors, entry doors, walls and surfaces to ensure that they are free from dust and dirt in accordance with the daily work schedules.
Clean, service, and police all restrooms, dorm rooms, gyms, offices, lobby, hallways, classrooms, and manufacturing areas, etc. in accordance with the daily work schedules.
Stock all supply dispensers in restrooms and ensure that all shelves and surfaces are clean and dry.
Ensure that all glass mirrors and interior and exterior doors are free from smudges, stains, discoloration.
Keep Aisles Clear: Never block emergency exits or fire extinguishers.
Spill Response: Clean up spills immediately to prevent slips and falls.
Safe Lifting: Use proper lifting techniques (bend knees) for heavy trash or recycling.
Visibility: Use safety cones to mark wet floors or cleaning in progress. Zero tolerance rule wet floor signs must be place to placed anytime an EVS Employee is go to wet mop a floor a mop floor. The same EVS staff member must go back when the floor is dry and pick up that wet floor sign.
Cardboard Baler Safety: Authorization Only: Only trained personnel may operate the baler (Must be 18+ years old).
Cardboard Baler Safety: Inspection Checklist: Check for oil leaks, loose wires, and safety sign visibility before starting.
Cardboard Baler Safety: Inspect Safety Guards: Never use a baler if the interlock door or safety gate is damaged.
Cardboard Baler Safety: Clear Area: Ensure no one is standing near the baler when it is activated.
Safe Loading and Operation: No Contaminants: Do not put glass, metal, plastic straps, or liquids into the cardboard baler.
Safe Loading and Operation: Even Loading: Distribute cardboard evenly to avoid jamming.
Safe Loading and Operation: Never Overfill: Do not fill above the maximum level.
Safe Loading and Operation: Body Position: Never lean into the chamber or put hands/feet inside while the machine is on.
Clearing Jams and Maintenance: Zero Energy: Disconnect the main power source and lock it so it cannot turn on while you are inside.
Clearing Jams and Maintenance: Remove Key: Remove the key from the machine when not in use.
Clearing Jams and Maintenance: No Hands: Use a pusher tool, not your hands, to clear stuck cardboard.
Bale Removal (Bale-Out): Tying Wires: Carefully feed wires through the bottom to tie the bale securely.
Bale Removal (Bale-Out): Bale Ejection: Stand well to the side when ejecting a bale.
Bale Removal (Bale-Out): Handling Heavy Bales: Use a pallet jack or forklift to remove the finished bale.
Bale Removal (Bale-Out): Stacking: Do not stack heavy bales too high; ensure stability.
Understand the employee handbook, hazard communication program, bloodborne pathogen procedure and all safety policies and procedures.
Participate in monthly safety training.
