About The Position

This position primarily supports the freezer and cooler areas of the warehouse. The role requires knowledge of multiple areas to ensure smooth operation during staff absences or heavy workloads. The Warehouse Assistant is responsible for various tasks including receiving, stocking, order selection, shipping, and maintenance of equipment and facilities.

Requirements

  • Must be fully literate, exhibit satisfactory four basic math skills, and heavy attention to detail.
  • Must have N.Y.S. Certificate and be able to operate a forklift vehicle.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds continually during the workday.
  • An active, NYS Driver’s license
  • Ability to volunteer at events

Responsibilities

  • Unloading of vehicles delivering products.
  • Accurate count and awareness of condition of product received.
  • Review and signing of delivery documentation.
  • Preparation and prompt submission of Log and Receipt Data Entry forms to warehouse office staff.
  • Proper and prompt slotting and stocking of products received including preparation of pallet tags.
  • Total awareness of FIFO status of product received and on hand where the first product arrived is the first product available for distribution.
  • Stocking of slots/racks in order-pulling area from reserve areas following FIFO controls.
  • Notification to Warehouse Manager of depleting inventory items.
  • Notification to receiving area of slot changes.
  • Pulling product for local Agency orders from pick lists. Provide adequate sign-off.
  • Communicating the need to have product placed in slots from reserve area(s).
  • Informing Warehouse Manager of any damage to or depletion of items from floor, cooler, or freezer areas.
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 30 feet and operate Crown Man-Up order selector.
  • Preparation of outbound product for delivery to Agency County sites or other food banks.
  • Loading of outbound trucks, ensuring an accurate count and condition of product to be shipped.
  • Preparation of invoices and outbound bill of lading from pick lists and proper review and signage.
  • Prompt delivery of documents to warehouse office staff.
  • Responsible for the proper use, care and working condition of any and all equipment in each individual’s case, and the reporting of servicing needs to the Warehouse Manager.
  • Assist the Warehouse Manager with maintenance of the warehouse as requested, e.g., floor scrubbing, vacuuming food storage areas, white line painting, etc.
  • Reporting any abnormalities noted in the facilities’ structure, doors, walk and driveways to the Warehouse Manager.
  • Responsible for proper care of clean condition of uniform clothing supplied by the Food Bank (jackets, pants, shirts, etc.).
  • Assist with any and all mission work as needed and requested with some or no prior notice including, but not limited to: serving as a truck spotter, helping with Farm Market/Community Garden/Freight Farms/on and off-site food distributions, preparation of meals and serving home-delivered meals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assist the Warehouse Manager with spot, weekly and/or monthly inventories as requested.
