About The Position

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to join its leadership team as a Warden. This role serves as the administrator of a multi-custody and multi-unit facility, working with a team of Deputy Wardens. The ideal candidate will have experience in leading and developing diverse staff, progressive administrative experience in managing inmate populations, monitoring and directing unit operations, security, and inmate programming. The Warden is responsible for ensuring the facility applies modern correctional practices. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication and critical thinking skills, utilize data in decision-making, and be able to manage a fast-paced environment with quickly changing priorities. Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of State and Federal laws, rules, and regulations governing the Department's operations
  • Knowledge of modern correctional management and supervision techniques and strategies, personnel, maintenance, warehousing, food service, and fiscal areas
  • Comprehensive security practices pertaining to the assignment
  • Knowledge of fiscal management; cost, effectiveness, and efficiency analysis
  • Knowledge of project planning, development, and management
  • Leadership, coaching, and supervision skills
  • Skill in performing complex analytical and managerial functions, including process improvement initiatives, implementation planning, data-informed decision-making
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Skill in engagement with officials, managers, employees, and representatives within the agency and other state agencies

  • Knowledge of State of Arizona or general state government budget processes

  • Must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license if driving is an essential function

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in corrections, social work, psychology, law, public administration, law enforcement, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in corrections administration.
  • Proven ability to encourage teamwork, professionalism, and innovation.
  • Demonstrate a record of continual professional development and/or education in the field of corrections.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing all aspects of facility operations, including security, programs, administration, and support services
  • Developing and implementing strategic plans, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe and rehabilitative environment
  • Representing the organization and maintaining positive relationships with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies and community partners
  • Hiring, training, and supervising qualified staff members, including correctional officers and administrative personnel
  • Providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to enhance staff performance and effectiveness, fostering an environment of wellness with an emphasis on communication, respect, and rapport-building
  • Evaluating employee performance, addressing personnel matters, and fostering a positive work culture
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and correctional standards to maintain a secure environment
  • Implementing and overseeing effective security protocols, emergency preparedness plans, and incident management procedures
  • Collaborating with local law enforcement and other agencies to enhance facility and community safety
  • Overseeing the implementation of evidence-based programs and services that support inmate rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society
  • Evaluating and monitoring inmate behavior, progress, and compliance with facility rules and regulations
  • Promoting a rehabilitative approach that addresses the needs of individual inmates and encourages positive behavioral change
