About The Position

Essential Functions: 1) Document Patient information. 2) Process doctor's orders. 3) Communicate with co-workers, patients, visitors, and physicians. 4) Answer the telephone. 5) Use the intercom. Provide the information to the appropriate person or place throughout the department and facility. 6) Maintain the paper medical record. 7) Initiate CPR. 8) Organize and prioritize work to complete daily assignment. 9) Participates in quality assurance, assessment and improvement activities. 10) Follow all infection control procedures and policies (including use of universal/standard precautions). 11) Interpret telemetry monitor. 12) Performs other duties as assigned. Non-Essential Functions: 13) Performs activities related to necessary ongoing operations of the unit: a) ordering; b) restocking; c) cleaning. 14) Assists patients with activities of daily living. 15) Transport patients by pushing, pulling, lifting; in a wheelchair, bed, cart of geri chair. 16) Reposition patients with or without mechanical devices, by lifting, pulling and pushing. Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Will be orientated to and maintain competence in working with patients in the following age categories: Med/Surg/Skilled/ ICU: Infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Competence at the beginning of employment will be measured through observation during orientation and review of documentation. Ongoing competence will be measures through observation of clinical practice, observation for performance evaluation, and competency in-service. See attached sheet for other initial and ongoing competence required by each department. Education: High School diploma (or its equivalency). Completion of a ward clerk training program desirable. Experience: One year of experience as a ward clerk or clerical healthcare role is desirable. One-year previous experience as a nurse assistant or similar position desirable in absence of ward clerk or clerical experience. Certification/Licensure: C.N.A. certification preferred. Code Blue Training: A minimum training level of BLS is required. Physical Demands: May require constant sitting and grasping. It requires frequent lifting and carrying up to 5 lbs and bending. The job requires frequent reaching and twisting, as well as frequent pushing and pulling of objects up to 10 lbs. Occasionally walking is required. Eye-hand coordination, and finger and manual dexterity are required. Requires corrected hearing and vision to a normal range. Use of office equipment such as computers, telephones, copies and intercom is required. Repetitive movements such as typing and writing are required. Use of office equipment such as telephones, copying machines, computers, fax machines, pagers, and intercoms may be required. Job requires working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours. Job requires potential exposure to body fluids and radiation. Requires the ability to distinguish letters and symbols. Working Conditions: Includes working frequent weekends and holidays, with potential for varied shifts, overtime, cost containment absent days, or standby time.
