About The Position

The Distinguished, Vulnerability Scanning Engineer serves as the technical authority on vulnerability scanning architecture, strategy, and engineering across the enterprise. This role defines the technical vision for how the organization discovers, identifies, and assesses security vulnerabilities at global scale — spanning network, cloud, container, and other environments. As a senior individual contributor on the vulnerability management team, this engineer drives innovation in vulnerability identification coverage, accuracy, performance, and automation while mentoring senior engineers and influencing the broader security engineering strategy. Distinguished, Vulnerability Scanning Engineer: Responsibilities include evolving the vulnerability identification program, optimizing the vulnerability management program, defining, and implementing strategic risk reduction initiatives, and scaling vulnerability management capabilities across the global Walmart ecosystem. In addition: Define and own the enterprise-wide vulnerability scanning architecture Evolve a scalable, resilient scanning infrastructure capable of operating across diverse network segments, cloud providers, and global data centers Advance the technical roadmap for scanning capabilities — evaluating emerging technologies and driving and influencing adoption decisions Enhance scan orchestration frameworks that balance coverage, frequency, performance impact, and asset criticality Evaluate and pilot next-generation scanning approaches including AI/ML-assisted vulnerability identification

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, information systems, cybersecurity or related area and 6 years’ experience in vulnerability scanning, or related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company.
  • 8 years’ experience in vulnerability scanning or related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Security+, Network+, GISF, GSEC, CISSP, or CCSP.
  • Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, information systems, cybersecurity or related area and 4 years’ experience leading information security or cybersecurity projects.
