About The Position

The Vulnerability Assessment Analyst performs security analysis to demonstrate that protection of nuclear material assets at Y-12 meets or exceeds policy requirements established by the Secretary of Energy. The analysis is documented in the Y-12 Vulnerability Assessment Report (VAR), Security Risk Assessments (SRA), and Site Security Plan (SSP). The analyst uses complex tools, including software for pathway analysis and combat simulations, and conducts explosive analyses, designs performance tests, develops physical and tactical site upgrades, and analyzes threat capabilities to identify effective weapons for deployment at Y-12. Working in support of the Safeguards and Security (S&S) Vulnerability Assessment organization, the analyst identifies vulnerabilities requiring corrective measures and collects and analyzes data about the physical and operating characteristics of the S&S program. Assessments cover Nuclear Material Control and Accountability (NMCA) operations, Physical Security, Protective Force, and Security Systems functions. The analyst reviews and updates the Protection Elements List, Site Security Plan, Security Incident Response Plan, and Material Access Area Security Plans. The role requires effective communication with mid-level personnel and senior management in contractor and Federal organizations, and the use of security analysis tools to complete work to established standards. It involves solving highly complex, diverse problems with organizational impact, selecting among possible solutions, developing innovative approaches, coordinating specialties and staff, and applying significant judgment and knowledge. Decisions may influence the success or failure of the organization’s short- and long-term objectives. The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance. It may involve entering Material Access Areas and participating in the Human Reliability Program, including successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and potentially a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination. Candidates accepting an offer must pass a pre-placement physical, drug screening, and background investigation. U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance applicants.
