About The Position

The VTL/Lathe Machinist will perform complex set ups, edit and operate established and NPI jobs with minimal supervision, ensuring parts conform to specifications and requirements. This role involves making modifications or adjustments as necessary, verifying dimensions using standard measuring instruments, and reading/interpreting blueprints and operations sheets. The machinist will contribute to a continuous improvement environment, follow all safety requirements, and work flexible hours and overtime to meet customer deadlines and production schedules. Collaboration with the engineering department on material conditions and machining parameters is expected, as is the ability to detect and report faulty operations or materials. Maintaining good housekeeping and wearing necessary PPE are also key responsibilities. This position may involve training others.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience machining in an aerospace environment.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience setting up and operating Manual VTL’s and manual lathes.
  • Familiarity with VTL and manual lathes such as Mazak, Mori-Seiki and Leblond.
  • Experience in machining plasma coatings and K/E seals on rotating aircraft parts.
  • Strong mathematical skills and knowledge of GD&T.
  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Willingness to learn basic CNC Programming.
  • Excellent communication skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to solve complex issues.
  • Able to utilize Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex set ups, edit and operate established and NPI jobs with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure parts conform to specifications and requirements.
  • Make modifications or adjustments as necessary.
  • Verify dimensions using standard measuring instruments (micrometers, depth gage, height gage, vernier).
  • Read and interpret blueprints and operations sheets.
  • Contribute to a continuous improvement environment, familiar with Lean practices and 6S.
  • Follow all safety requirements regarding machine operation, including proper guarding.
  • Work flexible hours and overtime to meet customer deadlines and commitments.
  • Meet customer production scheduling requirements.
  • Work with the engineering department regarding material conditions, best positioning of part, tool pressure, etc.
  • Detect faulty operations and materials and report these along with other problems to immediate supervisor.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices on machines and in work area.
  • Comply with all company and safety rules and regulations.
  • Wear necessary personal protective equipment as required.
  • Provide training to others as required.
