VSR - Structures

Stellantis•Auburn Hills, MI

About The Position

The Vehicle System Release (VSR) is responsible for ensuring the development and delivery of vehicle systems—including BIW (Platform/Tophat), Closures, Exterior, Restraints, and Vision—that meet design requirements and functional objectives for quality, cost (investment and variable), technical performance, and timing/planning. The role ensures critical Key Process Indicators are met at each development phase through launch and lifecycle vehicle actions. It works closely with Discipline Managers (Engineering Directors) and their teams to align on program objectives and development principles, processes, and methods. The VSR oversees sourcing and tooling documentation, milestone reviews and engineering KPIs, program targets, supplier tool kickoff and issue resolution, build support, change management and EBOM development, project execution, compliance, R&D budgeting, cross-functional coordination, pilot vehicle test planning, engineering resource estimates, and dimensional stability and fit/finish verification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, or Systems Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of automotive experience or other related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure sourcing-startup Source Package documents are complete, available, current, and aligned with sourcing closing due dates, working with release engineers, supervisors, and managers.
  • Develop milestone reviews (scorecards) and ensure Engineering Key Process Indicators meet milestones.
  • Achieve program milestone targets for quality, material cost, investment, research and development, weight, and timing.
  • Conduct the Tool Kickoff process with suppliers, ensuring required tooling-release documents are complete and available and parts are delivered on time.
  • Support build activities, including problem-solving activities.
  • Lead supplier troubleshooting related to design or manufacturing/dimensional issues.
  • Urgently address open issues through corporate systems and processes.
  • Develop and execute the change-management process with engineers, supervisors, and managers, including establishing the Electronic Bill of Material (EBOM).
  • Manage project execution according to global standards for current and new vehicle versions.
  • Ensure sub-system certifications and compliance for components and vehicles.
  • Build and maintain the R&D budget and ensure delivery to budget.
  • Coordinate with engineering and non-engineering teams, including purchasing, brand, planning, and manufacturing, to support successful project development and launch.
  • Evaluate pilot vehicle test plans and establish the parts, quantities, and associated costs required for execution.
  • Estimate labor hours required for full-time engineers to develop and validate new component designs, considering vehicle function objectives and impacts on existing component designs.
  • Confirm dimensional stability and fit/finish requirements for systems and components during pilot builds to support robust vehicle quality at launch.
  • Work closely with Discipline Managers (Engineering Directors) and their teams to align on program objectives and development principles, processes, and methods.
