About The Position

Universal Industrial Gases (UIG), a subsidiary of Nucor, is seeking a VPSA Process Engineer. This role is primarily responsible for developing process engineering designs and specifications for UIG Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorption (VPSA) projects and commercial proposals. The engineer will also provide process support for the start-up and ongoing operations of VPSA systems. Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum five years of experience in the Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorption industry for oxygen production. Other adsorption experience such as N2 PSA, CO2 VSA may be considered.
  • Experience in the development of Process Flow Diagram (PFDs) and Heat and Material Balances.
  • Working knowledge of Process Equipment and Line Sizing, material selection and calculating Utility requirements.
  • Excellent computer and Microsoft Office Software skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as effective problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Advanced Process Control experience.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze costs and benefits of various process solutions and select optimum design cases for the system and the equipment.
  • Perform process simulations and calculations, write process specifications, and provide accurate process data to support specifications and purchasing for various equipment components.
  • Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Heat and Material Balances (H&MB).
  • Participate in P&IDs development, HAZOP, plant commissioning and start-up, technical risk analysis, safety and environmental assessments and documentation, and VPSA troubleshooting and investigations.
  • Ensure successful completion of assigned project phases on schedule and within budget.
  • Review technical aspects of vendor equipment proposals.
  • Review and check project specific drawings and data sheets to ensure compliance with design criteria and standards.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of process performance test specifications for VPSA plants.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers as required.
  • Stay current with new process technologies and state-of-the-art industrial gas tools, design practices, methods, and concepts.
  • Assist in the development of department best practices, processes, procedures, tools, and standard specifications and data sheets.
  • Collect and maintain a Lessons Learned log and assist with the company's continuous improvement effort.
  • Provide process support for the start-up and ongoing operations of the VPSAs.
