About The Position

The VP, Senior Portfolio Manager, is responsible for dealing with assigned portfolio of existing and prospective commercial customers. Responsibilities include identifying, gathering, and analyzing relevant information to assess credit risk, establishing viability of sources of repayment, and determining appropriate loan structures. They will also meet with customers on a regular basis, regularly visit the Bank’s underlying collateral, and stay engaged and knowledgeable of the market. This position is also responsible for growing the portfolio in line with the Bank’s goals. This incumbent is also responsible for assuring documentation complies with internal policies and procedures, and with state and/or federal regulations. Acts as lead analyst in collaboration with loan officer in preparing credit presentations with recommendations consistent with bank policy that illustrate well-reasoned analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or economics
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in bank lending, loan review and/or compliance.
  • An understanding of the elements of more complicated credit analysis and underwriting of CRE and C & I loans is a must.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and computer skills
  • In depth knowledge of all federal and state regulations regarding lending and related departments
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles with ability to prepare and analyze financial statements.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Advanced written, oral, and interpersonal skills with ability to prepare and present presentations.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands and requirements and work independently and in a team environment.
  • Compliance with BSA regulations as appropriate to the position

Responsibilities

  • Provide general assistance to the SVP, Chief Lending Officer, such as loan structuring and pricing, monitoring credit performance and assisting with loan presentations.
  • Is responsible for a Portfolio of Loans and serves as the Primary Point of Contact for all new requests, renewals, and maintenance for that Portfolio.
  • Analyze financial data regarding loan requests for new, renewal and existing loans, including data provided by credit bureaus, other financial institutions and financial institution files.
  • Prepare spread sheets, reports, summaries and opinions for the SVP, Chief Lending Officer on new, renewal and existing loans. Also included here are reports on past due loans, critical action plans and exception tracking.
  • Professional interaction and communication with customers and third-party professionals (Accountants, Attorneys, Environmental Engineers, etc.).
  • Meet with clients regularly and maintain open communication with them, including returning correspondence promptly.
  • Identify problem loans, make recommendations for assignments of loans to upgrade or downgrade Borrower risk ratings.
  • Discuss the status of problem loans with the SVP, Chief Lending Officer, SVP, Chief Credit Officer and may make recommendations regarding future credit information needs and preparation of critical action plans if applicable.
  • Recommend improvements to loan policies and credit risk review policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the privacy of customer information and the security of all records.
  • Maintain knowledge of department policies and procedures through internal and external training activities and stays current on all assigned training.
  • Prepare memos for Security Committee and management reports.
