About The Position

Responsible for managing and monitoring daily workflow of assigned residential loan files. The Underwriting Manager is to make sound decisions within the risk parameters, investor guidelines and WesBanco Credit Policy. Work closely with EVP and SR. Retail Credit officer reviewing the Underwriting team’s loan productivity, quality loan review, loan product exceptions and other management functions.

Requirements

  • Ten years of AUS (Automated Underwriting Systems) experience required.
  • Strong knowledge in FNMA/FHLMC, FHA, VA, USDA programs and Appraisal regulations and requirements required.
  • Current knowledge of RESPA regulations
  • Previous management experience required.
  • Banking is a highly regulated industry and you will be expected to acquire and maintain a proficiency in the Bank's policies and procedures, and adhere to all laws, rules and regulations that are applicable to your conduct and the work you will be performing. You will also be expected to complete all assigned compliance training in a timely manner.

  • Experience with Encompass or similar LOS (Loan Origination System) is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred and/or a minimum of 10 years related Residential underwriting experience or equivalent combination of both.
  • FHA DE, VA SAR/LAPP designations preferred
  • Consumer lending experience and process improvement background is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and monitors daily workflow of assigned files to meet written Service Level Agreements.
  • Maintains a high level of expertise pertaining to agency and company guidelines along with internal underwriting processes and procedures and functions as the Subject Matter Expert.
  • Establishes and maintains underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Makes sound underwriting decisions on loans escalated for management review.
  • Works closely with Mortgage Loan Originators (MLO), processors and the Senior Management team.
  • Responsible for daily management functions to include managing the quality, compliance and performance of the underwriting staff.
  • Assists underwriters, processors and MLO’s with complex questions.
  • Reviews and must have ability to comprehend complex personal and business tax returns.
  • Provides responses to internal and external audits, identifies and implements solutions.
  • Handles all time reporting functions for the Underwriting team.
  • Maintains excellent knowledge of secondary market guidelines, regulatory updates and appraisal standards.
  • Responsible for the review of appraisers to be added or removed from the WesBanco approved appraiser list.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
