About The Position

The Vice President of Property Accounting provides strategic leadership and oversight of the organization's property accounting function, ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of financial operations across a diverse real estate portfolio. This role is responsible for developing standardized accounting processes, strengthening internal controls, driving automation initiatives, and delivering timely, accurate financial reporting to support operational and investment decision-making. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the VP of Property Accounting partners closely with cross-functional leaders to centralize accounting operations, optimize performance, and support the company's continued growth and expansion. Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
• 15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing accounting operations and teams.
• 8+ years of experience within the multifamily property management, real estate, or real estate investment industry.
• Demonstrated success leading centralized accounting organizations and scalable shared-service operations.
• Advanced knowledge of property accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and audit processes.
• Proven expertise in process improvement, workflow optimization, automation, and financial systems implementation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
• Proficiency with RealPage and Microsoft Office Suite; experience serving as a RealPage Super User preferred.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation strongly preferred.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline preferred.
• Experience managing accounting integrations associated with acquisitions, portfolio transitions, and organizational growth initiatives preferred.
• Experience leading property management system conversions and large-scale portfolio migrations, including RealPage, Yardi, and Entrata platforms.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the property accounting function, including accounts payable operations and third-party accounting partners.
• Recruit, develop, mentor, and evaluate accounting team members while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Establish performance expectations, monitor department effectiveness, and implement best practices to support operational excellence.
• Partner with operations and business leaders to enhance service delivery and support organizational objectives.
• Lead the centralization of property accounting activities to create scalable, efficient, and standardized operating processes.
• Identify and implement process improvements that strengthen accuracy, productivity, and service levels across the accounting organization.
• Drive automation initiatives and technology adoption to streamline workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve reporting capabilities.
• Evaluate emerging accounting technologies and industry best practices to support innovation and operational efficiency.
• Oversee the preparation, review, and delivery of accurate and timely property-level financial statements and reporting packages.
• Ensure the integrity of accounting records through review and approval of reconciliations, work papers, journal entries, and supporting documentation.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities in partnership with operations, asset management, and ownership stakeholders.
• Monitor accounting performance metrics and recommend corrective actions when necessary to improve results.
• Maintain effective internal controls and accounting procedures to ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and generally accepted accounting principles.
• Oversee audit preparation and coordination activities, including owner, lender, and external audit requests.
• Monitor financial risks, debt covenant compliance, and accounting-related obligations while ensuring timely resolution of identified issues.
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and governance standards that support organizational growth and accountability.
• Serve as the primary accounting partner for property operations, asset management, ownership groups, lenders, auditors, and other internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align accounting processes with business objectives and strategic initiatives.
• Communicate financial information, operational impacts, and accounting recommendations to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
• Support acquisitions, transitions, integrations, and other growth-related initiatives as needed.
