VP Portfolio Strategy & Operations

Vatica Health
$195,000 - $205,000

About The Position

The VP, Portfolio Strategy & Operations is the operational extension of the EVP of Solutions and owns the full operational spine of the Solutions team: the operating rhythm, the 2028 thesis tracker, growth bet milestone tracking, and the entire portfolio governance discipline - monthly portfolio reviews, stage-gate reviews, kill list discipline, and Business Intake and Prioritization. Critically, this role also owns the cross-portfolio layer: ensuring ICP consistency across segments, stewarding the solution catalog and its lifecycle classifications, tracking growth bets against milestone commitments, and synthesizing and operationalizing the cross-portfolio market strategy (maintaining competitive intelligence, market sizing, and white space analysis) in support of the EVP of Solutions’ strategic direction. The right fit is someone who can operate as a trusted right-hand to the EVP of Solutions on strategic judgment while simultaneously running the operational machinery of a multi-VP function. The expectation is that this role would be a people manager.

Requirements

  • Senior ex-consultant profile (McKinsey / BCG / Bain partner-track; Chartis / ClearView / Sg2 associate partner or principal) OR prior Chief of Staff experience at healthcare SaaS or enterprise technology scale
  • 10+ years in strategy operations, transformation, corporate strategy, product management, portfolio management, or senior advisory - with explicit experience running governance processes (stage-gate, phase-gate, product portfolio lifecycle) at enterprise scale; experience with ICP framework development, market strategy, solution catalog management, or competitive positioning in SaaS or healthcare preferred
  • Strong project orchestration skills with ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams and governance processes
  • Executive presence and ability to operate as the EVP of Solutions’s trusted operational extension - comfortable being in high-stakes exec
  • Operational rigor with comfort being the ‘bad news bearer’ - flagging drift, surfacing zombie work and discipline failures
  • Crisp written communication - can draft board materials, exec narratives, and decision memos
  • Team leadership experience - has built and developed small teams of analysts and program managers
  • Healthcare or healthcare SaaS context preferred; analytical rigor and operational depth are the non-negotiables

Nice To Haves

  • experience with ICP framework development, market strategy, solution catalog management, or competitive positioning in SaaS or healthcare preferred

Responsibilities

  • Design and operate the Solutions team operating cadence, metrics tracking, and leadership review rhythm
  • Own design, configuration and ongoing maintenance of tooling to support intake, initiative and metrics tracking, and portfolio management
  • Maintain consistency and documentation of the cross-portfolio ICP framework - ensuring qualification criteria and segment boundaries are documented and applied consistently across segments; escalate inconsistencies or proposed boundary changes to the EVP of Solutions
  • Own the growth bet registry: track designated growth bets across the portfolio against milestone commitments, resourcing assumptions, and exit or graduation criteria; flag drift and decision points
  • Steward the solution catalog - maintain completeness, lifecycle classification (Incubate / Standard / Sunset), ICP-to-solution mapping, and packaging alignment
  • Synthesize and maintain the cross-portfolio market strategy: segment-level market sizing (TAM/SAM), competitive landscape maps, individual focus market dynamics and white space analysis
  • Surface market intelligence to portfolio decisions: flag when ICP definitions may no longer reflect market realities, when growth bet sizing appears misaligned with opportunity, or when catalog gaps map to competitive or demand signals - package these as decision inputs
  • Flag cross-portfolio narrative inconsistencies for resolution
  • Design and operate the monthly portfolio review rhythm in coordination with Solution Owner VPs; Solution Owner VPs (VP SOs) own the agenda and decision-making within their segments - this role owns the cadence, preparation, and documentation
  • Manage quarterly stage-gate reviews for solutions in Incubate, Standard, and Sunset phases
  • Track solution lifecycle stage and surface stage transition recommendations
  • Structure portfolio reviews to surface decisions for the EVP of Solutions; VP SOs hold decision authority within their segments - this role creates the conditions for decisions
  • Track kill list execution and stage-gate decision quality; escalate non-compliance or drift to the EVP of Solutions
  • Own the intake process for new solution requests from Sales, CS, Partners, P&T, and field
  • Run the prioritization process in coordination with VP SOs; document and communicate decisions back to requesters - prioritization decisions affecting a VP SO’s segment require their input and are escalated to the EVP of Solutions when alignment cannot be reached
  • Prevent 'zombie' requests (intake without resolution) with transparent SLAs and decision logs.
