VP Operations

About The Position

We're hiring a VP of Operations to build and lead the systems that make Tofu run, working directly with our Founder & CEO. You'll own operational strategy and execution across the company — the financial model and reporting that leadership and our investors run on, and everything downstream of it: how we price, how we bill and collect, how we spend, how we hire, and how we keep the company auditable and compliant as we sell into the enterprise. Finance is the backbone of the role, but the job is broader than finance. If something is unclear, slow, or unowned, it's yours. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys creating order from complexity. There is no ops or finance team to inherit and no playbook to follow — you are building both. And you’ll use AI Agents to the extent you can to run your ship… not throw headcount at your scale problems. You'll move between rebuilding a forecast in the morning to unblocking a vendor contract, a hiring loop, or an enterprise security questionnaire in the afternoon. We're not looking for someone who wants to manage from a distance. We want someone who moves between strategy and execution seamlessly — designing systems, solving problems, and helping the company operate at a high level every day. This role sits at the center of the company and partners closely with the CEO, CTO, engineering, and our external accounting, legal, and compliance partners.

Requirements

  • 5–10+ years in operations, business or strategic operations, strategic finance/FP&A, consulting, investment banking, or private equity.
  • Experience building systems and processes in high-growth or complex environments.
  • Strong at financial modeling and analysis — you can build a driver-based model from a blank sheet and defend every assumption in it.
  • Fluent in SaaS metrics and the mechanics underneath them, not just the vocabulary.
  • Strong operator mindset. You like making organizations run better and you finish things.
  • Excellent judgment and comfort with ambiguity — you can make a call with incomplete information and explain your reasoning.
  • Highly organized, with real attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Comfortable working across functions and influencing without creating bureaucracy.
  • You write and communicate clearly. Board-ready by default.
  • Analytical and data-driven, and comfortable in the tooling — spreadsheets obviously, SQL and BI tools ideally.
  • Low ego and highly execution-oriented. Nothing is beneath you at this stage.
  • Comfortable owning both the strategic decision and the day-to-day execution.
  • Toronto-based.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in fintech, security, or another regulated or compliance-heavy industry.
  • Experience as a first finance or ops hire, building the function from the ground up.
  • Experience leading teams and standing up an operational function from scratch.
  • Experience supporting a fundraise or an M&A process from the company side.
  • Bonus: you've started a company before, or built a product or side project with real scale or revenue.

Responsibilities

  • Own the financial model, budget, and forecast — and the operating cadence that keeps them honest against actuals.
  • Manage burn and runway, and give leadership a clear, current picture of both at all times.
  • Own board and investor reporting: monthly and quarterly updates, KPI packages, and the narrative that goes with the numbers.
  • Own unit economics and pricing analysis — CAC, payback, gross margin per customer, cost-to-serve — and turn that work into pricing and packaging decisions.
  • Support fundraising end to end: model, data room, diligence requests, and investor Q&A.
  • Own cash management, AP/AR, payroll, and expense policy, working with outsourced accounting to close the books on time and accurately.
  • Own revenue reporting and the definitions behind it — ARR, net revenue retention, pipeline conversion, churn — so everyone is working from one set of numbers.
  • Build the quote-to-cash process: contracts, order forms, invoicing, collections, and renewals.
  • Develop and monitor the KPIs and reporting that tell us how the business is actually performing, and instrument the funnel and product so those numbers are trustworthy.
  • Manage and improve vendor, partner, and channel relationships — selection, negotiation, renewals, and consolidation.
  • Support GTM, products and the launches that will take Tofu to $10M in ARR
  • Own and improve company-wide operational systems and processes.
  • Build scalable workflows and operating infrastructure across teams as headcount grows.
  • Drive cross-functional execution and make sure priorities move quickly and effectively.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement practical solutions.
  • Support organizational planning, headcount and resourcing decisions, comp benchmarking, and hiring operations against company goals.
  • Establish internal controls, documentation, and operating discipline — enough rigor to pass enterprise diligence and an audit, not so much that it slows us down.
  • Partner with legal and security on contracts, SOC 2, privacy, and the compliance obligations that come with selling identity infrastructure to the enterprise.
  • Build and lead a high-performing operations team over time.
  • Own the special projects and company-building initiatives that don't fit neatly into a single function.
