About The Position

Bankjoy is seeking a VP of Engineering to lead four of its eight engineering value streams and implement a quality engineering framework across the entire organization. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on driving quality standards, automation, and release discipline. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quality engineering, experience rebuilding automation programs, and the ability to foster an automation-first quality culture. This role involves leading engineering managers and senior individual contributors, collaborating with technical support and release operations, and ensuring the delivery of reliable software in a regulated financial environment.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 4 years in engineering leadership managing managers and senior ICs.
  • Deep background in quality engineering, with hands-on experience building or rebuilding automation frameworks.
  • Proven experience migrating automation frameworks in a multi-platform environment (web and native mobile - iOS and Android).
  • Demonstrated success driving a cultural shift from manual-heavy to automation-first QA in a fintech, banking, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Experience implementing release gate processes and enforcing go/no-go decisions under schedule pressure.
  • Hands-on experience with modern automation tooling (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Appium, Maestro).
  • Familiarity with Angular, Swift, and Kotlin environments is a strong advantage.
  • Experience driving AI coding tool adoption across engineering teams, impacting culture and productivity.
  • Strong technical depth for solution design, architecture discussions, incident response, root-cause analysis, and complex debugging.
  • Ability to balance strategic leadership with operational execution.
  • Strong cross-functional credibility, having worked with technical support, release management, and product to solve systemic quality problems.
  • Excellent communication and organizational influence skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in fintech, core banking, or digital banking platforms.
  • Familiarity with credit union or community bank client environments.
  • Experience with SOC 2 Type II, PCI DSS, or similar regulatory compliance contexts.
  • Background working with multi-platform products serving both financial institutions and end consumers.
  • Experience managing QA teams through a transition from manual QA to quality engineering roles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead four value streams: Banking Core Integration, Business Banking, Vendor Integration, and Account Acquisition, focusing on delivery, velocity, and technical excellence.
  • Manage and develop engineering managers, tech leads, and a Principal Engineer, fostering a high-performing organization that utilizes AI-assisted development.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership in solution design, architectural reviews, production incident management, and complex troubleshooting.
  • Partner with the VP of Platform Engineering on cross-cutting initiatives like AI coding adoption, release coordination, architectural standards, and DevOps.
  • Drive quarterly engineering OKRs related to AI productivity, code quality, and delivery velocity.
  • Participate in senior leadership discussions with the COO, VP of Platform Engineering, and product leadership.
  • Design and implement the engineering quality framework across all eight value streams, establishing standards for testing and release readiness.
  • Own a modern multi-platform automation framework for Angular, Swift, and Kotlin.
  • Define and enforce quality gates, including automated coverage thresholds, defect standards, and QE sign-off.
  • Lead and develop the QA organization, transitioning towards a quality engineering model.
  • Establish test data management, environment parity standards, and CI/CD quality integration.
  • Build a quality dashboard for transparency on automation coverage, defect counts, and regression rates.
  • Partner with the Release Manager to implement structured release gate processes and go/no-go decisions.
  • Work with Technical Support to improve the feedback loop between production issues and engineering prioritization.
  • Own post-release retrospectives to identify systemic lessons and drive process changes.
  • Partner with product leadership to enforce scope freeze discipline and involve QEs in sprint planning and grooming.
  • Champion AI-assisted coding adoption across assigned value streams.
  • Embed AI productivity into engineering performance criteria.
  • Ensure AI tools are utilized in QA for test generation, maintenance, and regression coverage.
