VP of Data Center Solutions

Mercury ComputingBoulder, CO

About The Position

Mercury is a seed-stage software startup that enables utilities and data centers to exchange power capacity for load flexibility—speeding time to power for data centers while unlocking affordable load growth for utilities. Our software-only solution supports utility data center flexibility programs from end to end, including data center evaluation, technical integration, and ongoing dispatch and compliance monitoring. The platform integrates across data center flexibility solutions, including workload orchestration/GPU optimization, behind-the-meter storage and/or generation, and offsite, bring-your-own capacity solutions. We are actively piloting Mercury with Duke Energy in the Carolinas, where we are building the first data center flexibility demonstration featuring live AI workloads. Several other pilot programs with major US utilities, as well as a full scale 100MW+ project with a “power first” data center partner, are in the design phase and slated for launch in 2026. Mercury is funded by Crucible Capital, an investor at the intersection of energy, compute, and infrastructure, managing $100M across venture and owned GPU capacity (B300s), as well as Powerhouse Ventures, the leading utility-backed VC. We are partnered with Joules Accelerator at Duke Energy, the Energy Innovation Center at Dominion Energy, and Google’s AI for Energy Accelerator.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4+ years data center-specific GTM/sales/delivery or product management leadership role
  • Domain depth in one or more: data center development/operations, data center siting/interconnection, power grid/wholesale markets (ISO/RTO), data center demand response and/or demand-side flexibility/orchestration
  • Strong technical fluency: can reason about APIs, technical architecture, data models, telemetry, AI model training/inference, security implications etc.
  • Customer-obsessed and commercial: skilled at discovery with complex stakeholders and turning insights into shippable value and revenue
  • Builder’s bias to action: comfortable with ambiguity, short cycles, and tight feedback loops

Nice To Haves

  • Zero-to-one enterprise SaaS sales/delivery or product management leadership experience
  • Proven experience with hyperscaler/colo procurement and interconnection processes
  • Exposure to BESS/gensets/microgrids, market participation (capacity/ancillary), and measurement & verification
  • Track record building pricing & packaging for enterprise-based models
  • Prior seed/Series A leadership experience and proven ability to recruit, mentor and scale product/sales/delivery teams

Responsibilities

  • Own the data center GTM: Design, test, and iterate on the GTM motion for the data center side of the business; collaborate with FLT on sales narratives, product demos, pricing & packaging, and competitive positioning/landscape; support key customer meetings and deliver features for pilot deployments
  • Develop the roadmap: Develop the product strategy for our data center solutions, including: Interconnection analysis and flexible capacity expansion tools, Data center power/systems integrations (DCIM, BMS), Bundled BESS + flex-capacity-expansion offerings, Integrations with GPU flexibility partners (e.g., NVidia, Neuralwatt, Pebble, etc.), Off-site curtailable capacity via load aggregator partners (CPower, etc.)
  • Drive discovery: Run structured discovery sessions with data center partners to test assumptions, demo features and iterate on product roadmap and strategy
  • Build the platform: Translate roadmap into engineering requirements/user stories/acceptance criteria; establish product operating cadence (OKRs, metrics, sprint ceremonies) and work directly with the development team to deliver platform features
  • Scale the org: Hire, coach and develop a highly effective GTM/sales/product delivery organization
  • Be a thought leader: Speak at industry conferences and attend networking events; write whitepapers and publish articles; be featured in interviews and on podcasts
  • Support fundraising narrative: Contribute to board updates, investor narratives, customer case studies, and fundraising materials with clear product metrics and learnings

Benefits

  • Competitive base + meaningful equity (founding leadership grant)
  • Full health benefits, 401(k), and flexible PTO
  • Annual learning budget and travel to customer sites and team onsite
