About The Position

U.S. News & World Report is a digital media company focused on helping citizens, consumers, business leaders, and policy officials make informed decisions through independent reporting, rankings, data journalism, and advice. The Health franchise is expanding its data and analytics capabilities, building benchmarking tools, predictive insights, and data products. This role will lead the evolution of healthcare data and analytics, owning the analytics that make rankings and health data usable for health systems and related segments, and setting the data and AI strategy for new business initiatives. This is a market-facing analytics leadership role responsible for identifying market needs, prioritizing data assets and analytics use cases based on commercial value, and collaborating with product and tech teams to define requirements and build solutions. The role requires deep understanding of the healthcare industry and acting as the voice of the customer.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years in healthcare analytics, business intelligence, or client-facing data/analytics roles, ideally supporting data products.
  • Prior experience at a healthcare benchmarking, analytics, consulting, or data-licensing company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Strong SQL and BI tool fluency (Tableau, Power BI, or similar).
  • Comfortable owning dashboards and data pipelines for commercial products.
  • Experience translating complex or technical data into client-ready deliverables.
  • Track record supporting sales, business development, or client success teams with custom analysis under time pressure.
  • Team leadership experience managing data scientists and analysts.
  • Experience with healthcare quality measurement concepts (risk adjustment, benchmarking, percentile rankings).
  • Experience building or scaling a licensed data product from early-stage to broad commercial adoption.
  • Familiarity with hospital sales cycles and how health-system data/quality departments evaluate benchmarking tools.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain analytics for licensed data products, benchmarking tools, and client-facing dashboards.
  • Direct and supervise data analysts working with patient-level claims data.
  • Translate methodological outputs and data sets into client-facing metrics.
  • Partner with Product Management to scope new analytics-driven offerings.
  • Define new analytics use cases for data outside the rankings pipeline.
  • Identify and prioritize new data assets for acquisition or partnership.
  • Own data pipeline requirements and prioritization for the engineering team.
  • Evaluate vendor and data-partnership options.
  • Track data investment performance and sunset underperforming assets.
  • Lead the development of new analytics and AI/ML/Data Science solutions.
  • Track competitive AI use in healthcare benchmarking/ratings and provide recommendations.
  • Manage a team of data scientists and analysts.
  • Represent Applied Analytics in product roadmap planning.
  • Represent Applied Analytics during methodology review and planning.
  • Support sales and business development with custom analyses and briefings.
  • Build reusable analytic assets for sales and client success teams.
  • Field client questions about their performance and its drivers.
