We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our strong and growing team as a VP- Mortgage Lending located at our corporate headquarters in Lancaster, SC. The VP -Mortgage Lending is responsible for the administration and efficient daily operation of Mortgage Lending. This includes providing support and excellent service to other departments and to all the branches relating to Mortgage Lending. This person would assume duties and full responsibility for the department when the SVP is absent. The Vice President -Mortgage Lending provides strategic leadership for the credit union’s mortgage department, overseeing all aspects of mortgage lending operations. This role drives lending strategy, pricing execution, and regulatory compliance while overseeing a significant mortgage portfolio. Working closely with senior leadership and mortgage operations, the VP ensures alignment with production goals, balance sheet objectives, and risk tolerance, while continuously improving operational efficiency and market competitiveness.

Requirements

  • Eight years of residential mortgage experience, with recent secondary market mortgage lending and operations experience including agency or correspondent channels.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate. Accounting or related field preferred.
  • Leadership experience required. Must have successfully led a team that met or exceeded goals.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Experience in pricing management, underwriting, and related mortgage functions.
  • Understanding of interest rate and liquidity risks.
  • Must hold, or obtain within two years of assuming the role, a mortgage industry certification such as Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB), Certified Residential Mortgage Specialist (CRMS) or Accredited Mortgage Professional (AMP).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective action plans.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategies for residential mortgage production and servicing, including loan onboarding, escrow management, and reporting.
  • Align mortgage operations with organizational goals by collaborating with senior and executive leadership, legal, finance, compliance, and other partners to ensure operational efficiency and mitigate risk.
  • Lead the mortgage process from origination through closing, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Use resources efficiently and strive to reduce costs as part of the budgeting process.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team. This role is responsible for hiring, mentoring, and developing staff, setting performance targets, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous process improvement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments, external partners and vendors, and members.
  • Monitor market trends, prepayment behavior, fallout patterns, interest rate movements, and pipeline performance to forecast volume, manage exposure, and recommend strategic adjustments that minimize volatility and support production objectives.
  • Oversee mortgage pricing strategies, including rate sheet management, margin management, product positioning, and responsiveness to capital markets activity, to ensure competitive and profitable loan originations.
  • Evaluate current product offerings and recommend changes to product structures, pricing and guidelines to improve competitiveness.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities including construction, bridge, and other portfolio products.
  • Implement a secondary market initiative that enables direct loan sale and delivery execution, including best-execution analysis, investor commitment allocation, pooling strategy, mandatory versus best-efforts decisions, and fulfillment of delivery obligations to agencies and investors.
  • Working closely with our Chief Financial Officer, develop a structured framework for determining when to retain loans versus selling based on liquidity needs, interest rate risk and balance sheet strategies.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of Founders Federal Credit Union products, services, and member service standards to ensure mortgage loan strategies support the overall member experience and organizational mission.
  • Ensure compliance with Founders’ policies and procedures and all applicable federal regulatory requirements, including guidance issued by agencies such as NCUA and FFIEC, as well as privacy, information security, and consumer protection obligations, including GLBA and BSA.
  • Perform other related duties and strategic initiatives assigned in support of mortgage lending and organizational priorities.
